Mark Mattoon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 11, 2013.
Mark Alan Mattoon Mark Alan Mattoon, age 59, went to be with the Lord on June 6, 2013. He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lou Mattoon; his father, Richard Mattoon; and his sister, Shelly Mattoon. Mark leaves behind his beloved wife of 27 years, Connie Mattoon of Sevierville, Tenn. He also leaves behind his cousins, Marianne Gray and husband, Dexter of Morristown, Tenn., Suzanne Boatner and husband, Scott of Loudon, Tenn., and Yves Meheut and wife, Regina of Mesa, Ariz.; as well as Mark's stepmother, June Porter, also of Sevierville. Other special people in his life include his father-in-law, Allen Blaylock; his nephew, Derek, Blaylock and wife, Jessica; and sister-in-law, Rebecca Blaylock, all of Blountville, Tenn. Mark made his career for over 30 years in the health care field as an optician, receiving his Masters certification in 1990. Most of his time was spent in the Sevierville area, where he enjoyed getting to know his customers as friends more than patients. Mark was fortunate to have become very involved in Pathways Church in Sevierville for over five years, where he forged many lasting relationships with people who are strong in faith, caring and giving. He was also blessed to have been a small part of the "Live It" outreach program which works closely with Pathways Church and serves the needs in the local community. He also volunteered and enjoyed working for the remote area Medical. Music has always been a vital part of Mark's life. He had eclectic tastes, which showed in his large collection of albums and CD's. He also enjoyed photography, fine art and travel. A highlight of those interests was a recent trip to the Holy Land, which made a large portion of history come alive for him. In lieu of flowers, Mark's wife and family have requested donations to be made to Caris Hospice Care, the "Live It" program, local animal care facilities or any other foundation of your choice. A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, June 13, 2013, at Pathways Church located at 1126 Wagner Drive, Sevierville with Pastor Brent Freeman, Pastor Larry Freeman and Pastor Pat Freeman officiating. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the church prior to the service. Ecclesiastes 3 John 14:2,6, 15-21 Rawlings Funeral Home in charge of local arrangements. www.rawlingsfuneralhome.com

Dear Connie, family and friends of Mark,
It has saddened us knowing Mark was so very sick. We prayed and prayed for a miracle and in a way our prayers were answered. Thank you God for taking Mark home, for taking him in your arms and loving him there in heaven.
Connie, we know this is a tremendous loss and we want you to know that we love you. We know your family and wonderful Pathways Church Family love you and your needs will be met. God bless and comfort you, may you always feel Mark's loving presence.

Love,
Doug and Barbara
