Mark McCormick Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 22, 2024.
Mark McCormick passed away on November 18, 2024, following a valiant battle with numerous health issues following his double lung transplant in 2021. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, John & Margaret McCormick, his twin brother Matt, and their oldest brother Mike. Mark is survived by his wife, Marilyn, son, Scott, daughter, Kenna, grandsons, Chase and Caiden and his older brother, Pat. Mark entered the Air Force after high school, and began his career in telecommunications in 1975, in Tucson, shortly after his marriage to Marilyn. His career took him and his family of 4 to Denver in 1986, where he continued with AT&T and Comcast. He was very proud of receiving his Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree as an older student, and always said it was never too late to get an education but sometimes it could be too early. Prior to his retirement in 2014, Mark was diagnosed with IPF and became very involved in the Pulmonary Fibrosis community. He became the patient leader of a support group, and worked closely with some of the doctors and nurses at National Jewish Hospital in Denver. He was always grateful for the lasting relationships he made through his involvement with the support group. He became an Ambassador for the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation and did get to travel and do a few speaking engagements in that capacity. He loved sharing the information he had about IPF and his own journey. Mark also loved doing his artwork. He was very talented, but always his own worst critic. His happy place was a movie theater with a giant tub of popcorn. However, the most memorable thing about him is that he was a smart, very funny, wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. His wit and sense of humor was with him to the very end. He will be sorely missed by all who loved him.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Editha House, in Mark's name. This has literally been our home away from home for much of the last 3 years. The staff and the friends we have made at Editha House have become family, and we are so very grateful to have had the opportunity to stay there. Donations can be made at edithahouse.org or by calling directly to The Editha House (602) 388-4920.

Plans for a celebration of life are to be determined and announced at a later date.
