With family at his side, Max Marty Fine passed away peacefully at Rockyview Hospital on Friday May 31, 2013 at the age of 90. A few days prior he sustained a serious brain injury from a fall, which caused his passing. Until that fateful day he was vigorous, energetic, humorous and had that unique ever present twinkle in his eye. Only a month earlier he had, per his custom each year, driven from Palms Springs to Calgary. Marty was born in Toronto on October 11, 1922 to Reuven and Rebecca Fine. During a sprint in the Air Force, while stationed in Calgary, he met Sarah (Belzberg), the love of his life, who predeceased Marty in 2003, as did his brother Lou some years earlier. While his business pursuits were varied, he will be chiefly remembered for being a pioneer in the Calgary automobile business. Everyone loved Marty for his sense of humor, gentle nature, generosity and his ability to stimulate a sense of fun in all those around him. He is survived by sons Harvey, Larry (Elaine), and Arnold (Susan), and grandchildren Nicole (Michael), Stephanie, (Robert) Sydney, Carly (Misha), Adam, and great grand children, Max and Sophie and numerous nieces and nephews. During the last years of his life Marty enjoyed the companionship of Debbie Minas and her family. In lieu of flowers, we encourage friends to make a donation to the charity of their choice. The graveside service will be at Queen's Park Cemetery – New Jewish Section at 1:00 p.m., today, June 4, 2013, followed by a gathering at Beth Tzedec Synagogue.
