Mary Ann Brown Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jun. 1 to Jun. 4, 2023.
Mary Ann L. Brown, 76, of Akron passed away on Monday morning, May 29, 2023 at Cleveland Clinic-Akron General Hospital. Mary Ann was born on September 16, 1946, in Warren, the daughter of Stephen Holecko and Mildred Soos Holecko, both deceased.

She grew up on a small farm in Newton Falls, and helped her parents tend to the animals and crops. She enjoyed driving the tractor with her Dad and had many pets, especially dogs. She attended St. Joseph's Church in Newton Falls.

She graduated from Newton Falls High School in 1964 and enrolled at Kent State University, earning a bachelor degree in Spanish and English. Her first teaching position was at the newly opened Warren Western Reserve High School where she taught Spanish and directed popular drama productions in 1969.

Mary Ann earned her Master's degree in school administration from Kent State University and moved to Akron in 1971, where she served as an assistant principal in several secondary schools beginning with Goodyear Middle School. She retired from Ellet High School as an assistant principal in 2004. Her days were filled with after school sporting events and summer school while employed, and she loved the interaction with her students and fellow teachers.

She was a proud member of St. Vincent de Paul Church and would go early to Mass to listen to the beautiful choir sing. It gave her much joy. She also loved watching the CAVS play and rarely missed a game.

She will always be remembered by her loving sister, Dorothy Fogel, and her brother-in-law, David Fogel; and her nieces, Julianne and Christine. She loved her neighbors and loyal friends and her dog, Scruffy, who all gave her much support, care and love.

Family and friends may visit and pay tribute to Mary Ann from 10 to 11a.m. Friday, June 9, 2023 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 164 W. Market St. Akron, 44303. Mass of Christian Burial will follow 11a.m. at the Church. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Newton Falls at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Vincent Church or the the Macular Degeneration Foundation, at MD Foundation P.O. Box 531313, Henderson, NV 89053.

My deepest condolence to her family.

Mary Ann and I met at St. Vincent Church and through the years we shared many happy times together. She was like one of our family.

Mary Ann dearly loved her dog Scruffy, and she also loved my yellow lab Challie.
She would watch Challie for me from time to time and she would say, 'why don't you go somewhere so I can watch her.' LOL Then she would cry when I came to take her home.

I am going to miss you Mary Ann. My heart breaks now at the thought of you being gone. I love you little buddy.

Eternal rest grant unto her, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
