Mary Aronson Obituary

LACONIA ; Mary A. (Campbell) Aronson, formerly of Laconia, died Tuesday, Feb. 10, 2009, in Denver, Colo.

She was born Oct. 7, 1921, in Dorchester, Mass., the daughter of the late John F. and Margaret L. (Mahoney) Campbell. She was a graduate of the Boston (Mass.) school system, and trained as a nurse at the Whidden Memorial Hospital, Everett, Mass. She obtained her bachelor of science degree in Nursing from Boston College.

She served with the U.S. Army as a nurse during World War II, stationed with the 221st General Hospital in Belgium, France and Germany. She was discharged as a 1st lieutenant.

Mary was employed as a nurse with the Veterans Administration following the war, retiring in 1980, and later went on to work at the former N.H. State School in Laconia for several years.

Survivors include her son, John F. Aronson of South Hadley, Mass.; a daughter, Rosemary Ridge of Manchester; grandchildren John F. Aronson of Denver,Colo., Jennifer Ridge of Culver City, Calif., Elizabeth Ridge of Boston, Mass., and Victoria Ridge of Philadelphia, Pa.; a sister, Margaret Davis of Marshfield, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and relatives are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph Church, Church Street, Laconia. Burial with full military honors will be at 1:30 p.m. in the N.H. State Veterans' Cemetery, Boscawen.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the N.H. Humane Society, PO Box 572, Laconia NH 03247.

The Dewhirst Funeral Home, 1061 Union Avenue, Laconia, is in charge of the arrangements.
