Phoenix - Mary Sue Aubuchon, 82, a resident of Phoenix, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Amiga Assisted Living Home. Mary was born on March 2, 1943, in Heber Springs, Arkansas, the daughter of Ben C. Varnum and Anna Lea (Grimes) Varnum. The Varnum family also lived in Indiana before settling in Glendale, Arizona in 1959. After high school Mary served a summer internship at the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. She worked as an executive secretary for the president of Del Webb Construction Company in Phoenix until 1988, a legal secretary at O'Connor Cavanagh until 1998, Kurtz Sommer Devlin private law firm until 2003 and finished her career with a medical malpractice law firm in 2013 at 70 years old. Mary had a passion for music with Elvis being her favorite. She studied ballroom dancing as well and won trophies in several competitions. She was an active member of Beta Sigma Phi, an international women's service and social organization, from 1962-2010. She served as President of all chapters in the BSP Phoenix City Council 1974-1975 and took leadership in the development of a Safe House for victims of domestic violence. On October 5th, 1968, Mary was married to John Allgire and had one daughter. On September 26, 1975, she was married to Donald Aubuchon, who preceded her in death in 2005. William (Bill) Clawson was her partner for 13 years until his death in 2020. Mary was known for her poise in all situations, classic style of dress and fondness for all types of hats. Most notably, she was kind to all who knew and loved her. Mary Aubuchon is sadly missed and forever remembered by her daughter, Traci Batten and husband, Ed of Phoenix; two grandchildren, Bryce Batten and Heather Johnson (Batten) of Phoenix; two great-grandchildren Addilyn and Kora Johnson; one brother, Ed Varnum and wife, Jan of Columbia, MO and three nieces and nephews, Chris Varnum, Vanessa Barnes (Varnum) and husband, Matt, and Nautica Varnum; several cousins and many friends. A celebration of life is planned for the fall at Traci and Ed's home.
