Indianapolis Mary Kay Deckard Sadly, we announce the passing of our mom, grandma and great-grandma, Marcia Kay Oliver Deckard. She passed away on Friday, August 15, 2025, in Indianapolis, IN. Marcia was born in Indianapolis, IN on July 17, 1943, to Homer and Delpha (Gray) Oliver. She grew up in Spearsville, IN, attended Unity Baptist Church and attended Helmsburg High School graduating in 1961. As a young girl, Marcia loved visiting her Grandma and Grandpa Gray and seeing her aunt and all of her uncles. She enjoyed telling the many stories of her visits to their house. While in high school, Marcia excelled in the choir. One of her most cherished memories was visiting St. Louis with her music teacher Mrs. Corcoran. It's a story she shared often. She was a wonderful singer and played the piano beautifully. Other high school highlights included being crowned the 1961 prom queen and dating the love of her life, Boots (Robert). Marcia chose to forgo a musical career to marry Boots and raise a family.

Marcia and Boots were married on August 5, 1961, at Unity Baptist Church and began their life together in Indianapolis. They enjoyed sixty wonderful years together before Boots's passing in 2022. They welcomed their son, Rodney Layton in 1962 and their daughter, Andrea Jane(Sugar Doll) in 1971. Marcia loved so many things. She loved Elvis and dancing with Boots. She attended Elvis's last concert at Market Square Arena in 1977. She loved pretty dishes and jewelry. Boots made sure she had plenty of each. Christmas and family time were very special to Marcia. She loved decorating for the holidays especially Christmas. She was a great cook and taught many of us the tricks for making food taste delicious. She loved shopping and enjoying lunches with her best friend of 57 years, Betty Wineinger.

After raising her children, she enjoyed babysitting other's children and watching them grow up. She loved her grandchildren dearly and took pleasure in babysitting Taylor and Riley. She would welcome two other grandchildren, Layton and Andrew. Marcia lived the life she wanted by making a loving and special home for her family and friends.

Marcia is survived by her son Rodney (Mary Ann) Deckard of Indianapolis, IN, her daughter Andrea "Sugar Doll" (Chris) Cockerham of Bloomington, IN. Her grandchildren, Taylor (Deckard) and Jake Strausbaugh of Troy, IL, Riley (Bailey Walters) Deckard of Hillsdale, MI, Layton and Andrew Cockerham of Bloomington, IN. Her great-granddaughters, Sophie and Sadie Strausbaugh. Her brother Gary (Sheila) Oliver and sister Nancy (Gary) Bruce. Her nieces, Heidi (Levi) Jones, Jannaka Oliver and Michele (Abe) Schultz; and her nephew, Ryan (Abbie) Oliver as well as their families. She is survived by her best friend Betty Wineinger and the extended Wineinger family as well as many cousins.
