Mary Caroline Majors
Martinez, GA—On Thursday March 25, 2021, Mary Caroline Majors, born April 17, 1963, beloved daughter of Margaret Louise and James Stanley Majors, also deceased, entered into rest. She is survived by her siblings, Margaret Anne Weston, and William S. Majors, her nieces, Courtney Brie Weston, and Sarah Anne Weston, and her great nephew, Bryan James Bopp.
As the child of a military officer (Major James S. Majors), Mary and her siblings were born overseas, and lived in many places across the mid-Atlantic and the South for the 1st decade of her life. She attended Middle and High School in Hephzibah, GA, graduating in 1981. She attended Augusta College, University of Georgia, and graduated from The Medical College of Georgia in 1988 with a degree in Nursing. Mary practiced as an active nurse for many years in Augusta GA, at all major hospitals in the area including MCG, Humana, and Dr's Hospital, in a variety of challenging roles including OR/ER, ICU, shock trauma, burn unit, and air med. Most recently she worked in case management and healthcare efficiency analysis projects for United Healthcare at Dr's Hospital. In all her work, Mary earned the respect and admiration from her peers for her work ethic, her no-nonsense attitude toward patient care, her dedication and loyalty to her fellow practitioners, and her patients. More than a few of her peers considered Mary the "go-to" nurse and advocate they would choose for their own care.
Mary was a beloved daughter, sister, and aunt to her family, which above all else she treasured. She loved spending time with her family, including shared meals, games, and group vacations at the beach. Mary was a fierce competitor with a penchant for bending the rules in family games, and displayed a wicked sense of humor. She was in every sense a character, with a talent for drama, a great sense of fashion, a love of antiques, family heirlooms, handbags, and shoes. Always straight to the point and firm in her thoughts and beliefs, but also always willing to bend over backwards to help any in need. She was deeply religious, and a practicing Catholic.
Mary suffered for many years from several debilitating medical issues including rheumatoid arthritis and sarcoidosis. She dealt with these very challenging conditions with tenacity and grace, and it is a tribute to her endurance and will that despite not being able to work for several years after the onset of sarcoidosis, she persisted in regaining enough of her health to return to work for the last several years until her passing.
Mary loved pets, and owned many over her life. She, like her mother, was a soft touch for any neighborhood strays. This year Mary lost her 2 of her most beloved pets, both cats, Clarabella and Juan Carlos. Clarabella was her heart, and suffered herself from a recurring illness that Mary nursed her through many times. Mary suffered greatly from her loss. She lost Carlos unexpectedly in March. We are glad she is now reunited with them as well as her parents, grand parents, and other loved ones.
There will be no funeral. Mary chose to be cremated, with her ashes scattered at the beach by her family. Due to safety concerns during the pandemic, the family has chosen to defer a gathering of her friends and family until later this year. An announcement will be made when it is safe to gather together to remember her. For those who knew her, Mary will be impossible to forget.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a donation to your local animal shelter or rescue organization.

First of all, my condolences to Mary's family. Mary was very family oriented. I worked with Mary for many years on the burn unit. She was always great to work with, being that she was consistent in her kindness to her patients and staff, and always a team player. Mary was a great nurse, high IQ, very knowledgeable and she easily troubleshooted any nursing problems on the unit and solved them quickly, the go-to-person. In addition Mary always delivered excellent patient care. I will miss those times when she joined us for an evening, dining out, or a lunch get-together on our days off. Her passing is a great loss to the nursing community, and to all of us who were her colleagues.

I was very surprised and saddened to hear of Mary’s passing. We were classmates at MCG Nursing School, worked for years together at the Burn Center and kept in touch through social media. Her obituary describes her perfectly. She was smart, funny, mischievous and never afraid to speak her mind. A great friend to the end. She will be sorely missed. Condolences to her family especially her nieces that she loved as if they were her own children.
