Matthew Harfield Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 26, 2014.
Matthew Sean Harfield
April 12, 1984 – Dec. 22, 2014

Matthew Sean Harfield, 30, of Brooklyn, New York, (formerly of Hoover, Alabama) passed away December 22, 2014. He was born in Panama City, Florida on April 12, 1984.

Matthew graduated from Hoover High School and earned his college degree from Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Georgia, in Film and Television. He graduated in 2006 with honors.

Matthew was a kind, gentle, and free-spirited soul. He chased his dreams and lived his life to the fullest everyday. He packed so very much in his short thirty years. He was a friend to many and was always there for them when they needed him. His family and friends loved him dearly.

Matthew was born with aortic stenosis, which was monitored throughout his life. It was his heart that gave out on him at such a young age.

He is survived by his mother Kelli Montali (Mike) and father Michael Harfield (Sarah), brothers John Harfield and Ryan Harfield (Genevieve), grandmother Frances Burgess, step-sister Weldon Birdwell (Brad), aunts Julie Gunn and Cristina Kochevar, and step-nephew Cooper Birdwell. His late grandparents were James Ralph Burgess and Margaret Gunn.

Visitation and viewing will be held from 4-6 p.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at Ridout's Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, Alabama.

A celebration of Matthew's life will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Rojo, 2921 Highland Ave S. in Birmingham, Alabama.

Gifts may be made in memory of Matthew to Children's Hospital of Alabama through the following website: http://foundation.childrensal.org/

Kelli, I am so sorry for the loss of your precious son. My thoughts and prayers are with you and the family. I know there are no words anyone can say right now to take away the heartache and pain you feel right now, but I pray you and your family have some peace and comfort in knowing that Matthew is now being comforted in the arms of our Lord.
As I was looking through the photos, I could see how much Matthew loved you and all his family and friends and it was obvious how much he loved life. I know you will forever cherish all the wonderful moments and years you had with your precious son. God bless you and your family; keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Michael and Kelli Sarah and Mike, and to all the family, there are no words for me to say to lift your grief and sorrow ...know that I remember Mathew as a child as I do all your boys. Mathew will always be in your hearts. So happy he lived his life following his dreams and remaining that free spirit. Love to you all.
