Maureen Beck Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 27, 2024.
Maureen Kathryn Brower Beck, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2024, at the age of 79.

Born on November 24, 1944, in Elizabeth, New Jersey, to the late James Brower and Mary Tansey, Maureen experienced the loss of her father at an early age. Her mother, Mary, later remarried to Bill Foley, a wonderful man who became an integral part of Maureen's life. Growing up in this loving family, Maureen's journey took her from New Jersey to her true home in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 1974, alongside her then-husband Hank Beck and their two sons, Chris and Steve.

Maureen's life was a testament to resilience and unwavering dedication. Facing the challenges of single motherhood after her divorce, she showed remarkable strength and tenacity. Balancing a full-time job while attending night school and raising her sons, Maureen laid a foundation of love and stability for her family. Her career as an Executive Assistant, which she excelled in until her retirement in 2014, was marked by professionalism and efficiency.

More than her professional accomplishments, Maureen will be remembered for her boundless kindness and care for others. Her love for animals was profound, as seen in her affection for her beloved dogs, Bella and Riley. Maureen's generosity extended beyond her immediate circle; she was a beacon of hope for many struggling with alcoholism, offering guidance and support as a sponsor for over 20 years.

Maureen's legacy is carried on by her loving family: her sons, Chris Beck and his wife Carrie, Steve Beck and his wife Jennifer; her adored grandchildren, Haley, Dawson, and Josh; and her faithful dogs, Bella and Riley. Her warmth, compassion, and indomitable spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

A memorial service celebrating Maureen's life will be held on Monday, February 5, 2024, at 11:00 am in the Charis Room at Forest Hill Church, Southpark Campus.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Maureen's memory to the Charlotte Humane Society, the ASPCA, or Alcoholics Anonymous, reflecting her lifelong commitment to caring for animals and supporting those in recovery.

Maureen's journey through life was a beautiful blend of strength, love, and selflessness. As we remember her, let us cherish the moments of joy and the lessons of resilience she imparted to us all.

As a mother-in-law and a friend, Maureen was an example of steadfast love and kindness. She treasured her family and never missed an opportunity to show up for them, to celebrate a win or be a caring presence through hard times. I will always admire her quiet tenacity, strength, dignity, love and faithfulness. She was truly a gift to her family, friends, and fur babies. I will miss her.
