Maureen Catherine McCabe, also known as Mo, Mama Mo, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2023, in San Diego, California, at the age of 80. She was born on May 6, 1943, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Robert & Irene Dawson. Maureen was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend.

Maureen was a vibrant and lively soul who always knew how to have a good time. She had an infectious smile and a zest for life that touched everyone she met. She loved spending time with her family and friends, creating cherished memories that will be treasured forever. Maureen was a dedicated fan of the Padres and enjoyed watching their games. She also had a passion for travel, exploring new places and experiencing different cultures.

Throughout her career, Maureen worked several different places but ended and retired with the South Bay Union School District where she worked for 25 years. She served as an Administrative School Secretary at Pence & Harbor View/ Imperial Beach Elementary School. Her dedication and hard work made a lasting impact on the lives of students and colleagues alike.

In her free time, Maureen found joy in gardening and nurturing beautiful plants. She had a green thumb and took pride in creating vibrant and flourishing gardens. Additionally, she loved to cook for family and friends, loved to travel and embark on new adventures, discovering the wonders of the world.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 1:00 pm at the Fleet Reserve Association in Imperial Beach. Family, friends, and all who knew Maureen are invited to come together to honor her memory and share stories of her remarkable life.

Maureen is survived by her loving husband, Thomas McCabe; her sister, JoAnne Dougherty; her brother, Robert Dawson; her son, Gregory Palacios; her daughters, Dana Kane and Leanne Palacios; her granddaughters, Sierra Palacios, Lakota Abdalla, Joan Kane, Caitlin Kane, Paloma Palacios, and Liliana Hudson; her grandsons, Martin Gil and Sean Hudson; her great-granddaughter Gemma & great grandson Ivan.

Maureen Catherine McCabe will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love, strength, and beauty will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.
