Max Mills

Max Mills left this earth to join his Dad, Glenn Mills and Father-in-Law, Huell Tilley in Heaven on April 9, 2014 after a short battle with cancer. Oh what a reunion that must be! Max loved God, family, life and watching UK athletics with his family. He loved listening to the music created by his lovely wife, Sheila. He said God spoke through the music she composed and played. Nothing made him smile more than watching and listening to her on the piano. He also dearly loved his daughter, Bridget and the grandsons she brought into his life, Jackson, Brady and Mason. He could relive his own childhood though Jackson's love of knowledge, Brady's love of sports and Mason's vivid imagination. When asked recently, "How can I pray for you" his response was, "That my life may somehow have made a difference. That those I came in contact with will know I loved God, and they might come to experience Him themselves." He was very active at New Life and helped with getting Young Life established in Daviess County. Because of this we, the family, ask that instead of flowers that wilt and die, donations be sent to New Life Church or Young Life Ministries in his memory. He loved helping people in all walks of life. He never met a stranger. His familiar, "Hi, how are ya," will remain in our thoughts for years to come. He graduated from the University of Kentucky with an MBA. His life took him down many paths, love him or not, you could never deny that he stood for what he believed in. At the time of his moving to take up residence in Heaven he still had hope, faith and a zeal for life that illness would have zapped from most. He is preceded in death by his Dad, Glenn, who he loved and cared for after a stroke and the illness that followed. Those left in sadness of his leaving are his wife, Sheila Rae Mills; his daughter, Bridget Prusz (and husband Andy); and his grandsons, Jackson, Brady and Mason Prusz all of Owensboro. Others with sorrow in their hearts are his Mom, Shirley Mills; his sister, Kaye Varvel (and husband Dewayne), of Owensboro; his brother, Tommy Mills (and wife Kim) of Lexington; brother-in-law, Steve Tilley of LaCenter; nieces, Kim McDaniel (and husband Brian) of Louisville, and Meg Mills of Lexington; and nephews, Josh Cox (and fiancé Danielle Bryant) and Matt Mills all of Lexington. Max asked that his funeral not be a time of sorrow, but a time to share happy memories. There will be no traditional funeral service, but a time of hope for the future and reflection on happier times past. We will celebrate his life at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2015, at James H Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. Visitation is from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday and from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. He will be buried close to his Dad, at Oakwood Cemetery in Hartford.
