Melanie with a jaunty hat.

I was lucky to meet Melanie a few times. We kept up a good correspondence through email, letters, the phone and facebook. She was always cheerful and upbeat, even when things seemed to be nearing chaos! She was a good friend with many interests, who wasn't afraid to take chances and try new things. She dearly loved her four sons, and her experience as a mother gave her insight to help others with children who were facing tough times. While we're lost without her, heaven gained an angel.

Such a creative force, she encouraged others to express their own artistic side, even if it was only in small ways at home. She followed her dreams, big and small. I'm happy to have known her for so many years, even if we never met in person.
