Michael J. Chapman, age 30 of Lafayette, passed away at his home at 1:31 a.m. on Monday, June 11, 2012. Born August 15, 1981 in Lafayette, he was the son of John H. and Rosemary L. Sanna Chapman of Lafayette. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in 2000 and attended Vincennes University. His marriage was to Megan E. Ponto on December 30, 2006 at St. Mary Cathedral and she survives. Michael was an EMT with Prompt Ambulance Central and a volunteer fireman for Sheffield Township. He was a member of St. Mary Cathedral and the IVFA (Indiana Volunteer Firefighters Association). He enjoyed being a firefighter, being a Daddy to his lil' "monkey", building model cars, and playing video games. Surviving with his wife and parents is his daughter, Alexis N. Chapman at home; three sisters, Mary Beth Coyner (husband, Robin) of Dayton, IN, Kathleen Beville (husband, Mark) of Heidelburg, Germany, and Patty Stage (husband, Kyle) of Kokomo, IN; his inlaws, Bob and Peg Ponto of Fowler, IN; brother and sister-in-laws, Annie Edwards (husband, Tim) and Kate Ponto (fiancé, Joel) ; five nieces, Abbey, Rachel, and Grace Beville and Kelly and Molly Stage; and one nephew Jace Edwards. Visitation from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 a.m. Friday at St. Mary Cathedral with Father Daniel Gartland officiating. Interment to follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions in Michael's name be made to the Michael J. Chapman Trust Fund c/o daughter Alexis or the Sheffield Volunteer Fire Dept. Hippensteel Funeral Home entrusted with care.
