Michael A. Dakin, age 61 of Newaygo, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at his home following a short illness and battle with cancer. Michael was born on August 29, 1961 in Fremont to Milton and Anna Laura (Schornagel) Dakin and graduated from high school in San Bernadino, California. Michael later moved back to the area and has been a resident of the Newaygo area since 2000. Michael met and later married Elizabeth “Lizzy” Leach on November 28, 2009 in Newaygo. Michael had been a truck driver for M.C. Van Kampen Trucking in Grand Rapids for several years until his illness forced him to retire in September 2021. Michael enjoyed riding motorcycles, wrenching on vehicles and motorcycles, and grilling out.
Michael is survived by his wife, Lizzy of Newaygo; his father, Milton Dakin of White Cloud; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Michael was preceded in death by his mother, Anna L. Dakin on December 8, 2021.
VISITATION : Wednesday, December 21, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel 7193 W 48th Street Fremont MI 49412 MEMORIAL SERVICES : Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at 12:00 pm at the Crandell Funeral Home – Fremont Chapel 7193 W 48th Street Fremont MI 49412. INTERMENT : Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS : Spectrum Heath Foundation for Spectrum Health Hospice. I didn’t know Mike very well. We met a few times. The few conversations l had with him l liked. I could tell he was a nice person. And he lived to laugh.
I’m glad he to know he believed in Christ. So he is in Heaven. Happy. Healthy. And praising God!
