Michael Gaeta Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 4, 2025.
Michael "Mike" Gaeta, affectionately known as "Gator" to many, passed away on July 24, 2025, in Tampa, Florida, at the age of 63. Born in 1961, in Cleveland, Ohio, Mike lived a life full of energy, leadership, and laughter that left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Throughout his career, Mike naturally gravitated toward leadership roles. He had an innate ability to bring out the best in those around him and took great pride in fostering strong friendships within the workplace. His management style was marked by appreciation and encouragement-qualities that earned him deep respect and admiration from colleagues across the years.

Mike's vibrant personality extended far beyond the office. A passionate member of the RC helicopter community, he was widely known by his nickname "Gator." He once served as President of TORCHS (The Orlando Radio Control Helicopter Society) and was a beloved MC at their annual Winter Bash. His enthusiasm for the hobby led him to travel to various fun fly events, where he supported fellow enthusiasts and made countless friends along the way.

He also enjoyed spending time at the shooting range and embraced every opportunity to share his passions with others. Whether behind a microphone or among friends at a gathering, Mike had a magnetic presence. He was known for ending many evenings with his signature rendition of "That's Amore," bringing smiles and laughter wherever he went.

Mike shared 40 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife Kathleen "Kathie" Gaeta. Together they built a loving family that brought him immense joy and pride. He is survived by Kathie; their son Michael Gaeta and his wife Rachael; their daughter Samantha Ondrovic and her husband Phillip; and five cherished grandchildren: Kayleigh Gaeta, Payton Gaeta, Michael Gaeta, Owen Ondrovic, and Evan Ondrovic.

He is also survived by his mother Johanna Gaeta; sister Michelle Tomsovic and her husband Tom; brother Matthew Gaeta and his wife Kathy; nephew Tommy Tomsovic; niece Nikki Tomsovic; as well as many dear friends who became like family over the years.

Mike was preceded in death by his father Michael Gaeta; mother-in-law Bridie Scollard; and father-in-law Michael Scollard.

Mike's legacy lives on through the love he gave so freely and the joy he brought into every room. May his memory continue to bring comfort to all who knew him-and may we always hear echoes of "That's Amore" when we think of him.

A Funeral Mass will be held on August 18, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Clement's Catholic Church located at 1104 N Alexander St. Plant City, FL 33563. A luncheon will immediately follow at The Elks Lodge, located at 1501 N Alexander St. Plant City, FL 33563

Never ever enough words to say, or enough time now, to have just one more conversation. I will miss those moments. Playing with our toy helicopters, we have enjoyed so many laughs together, talked to find solutions for big and small problems, and even chatted about how to best work with a few challenging people, the Chicago way! Thank you for your great spirit and never ending friendship. The love you had for your family will be remembered as such a great example for others. You are now in the best of places my friend.

In 2023 I was blessed with the opportunity to work for Michael whom we all referred to as Gaeta or "G" at Envirowaste. When I first met him he walked into our miami office on his first day with a loud and boisterous "Good morning" and had so much energy. Without even knowing him I knew I would grow to love seeing him around. In 2023 I was offered the opportunity to work for the Tampa Operations and he was shocked I caught on so quickly. He was always extremely encouraging and such an awesome pleasure to work with. When I would travel to Tampa once a month I saw how he interacted with his crew, and how much he really cared about the people he poured into. Gaeta always made everyone laugh and made the work environment fun. My tenure at Envirowaste ended but I always kept in contact with Gaeta. I am extremely sad of his passing and wish I would have reached out to hear him one last time. He will forever be missed. My heart goes out to the family, friends, and Envirowaste crews. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I have known Mike for many years through work and have always found Mike to be reliable and nice even when i would be yelling at him to get me more trucks. We would laugh afterwards but Mike always delivered with such patience. I will miss those late night calls so one last time Mike "get me more trucks!!!!

Uncle Michael, you left us far too soon. There are still so many things I wish I could share with you-so many laughs, so many special moments. I will always remember your funny stories and the jokes that made everyone smile. You truly lit up every room you entered. Even though we didn´t have many years together, it always felt like we´d been family forever. I love you, Uncle Michael. You and Papa will always hold a special place in my heart.

Mike is an amazing person who would help anyone. I was there for his first heli back flips and auto rotations. Standing next to me at my wedding. The memories of building heli's on his the dinning room table. Scrambling to fix a crash at the field. I miss those days and the time we shared. We love you Mike.

I am going to miss Gator, met him twice, once at IRCHA and once at TORCHS. I have to admit that at Torchs was the best, between BK and Gator I had the best time, sorry we couldn't fly together in Hawaii, but I am sure that we will fly together one day soon. Great guy, I wish I had more time with him.
