I just learned of Michael's passing a week ago! We met photographing the Sacred and Profane at Battery Steele on Peaks, a few years ago. My wife and I met him at Arabica Coffee to get some tips about Mallorca, where he live for a period of time. Seems the older we get, the people we know leave is one by one, until it's inevitably our turn to join them, returning to the starstuff from whence qe originated....

Mikey, as I knew him. As a teenager we would wander New York at night. We shared our poetry with each and laughed a lot. I had brief encounters with Mike over the years and then during the Greenwich Village Kids reunion had the opportunity to spend some solid time with him. I am so touched by his writings, his photography, his woodworking, his chef skills, his love for his children. The man was simply talented!! I am glad we reconnected and sorry he is gone so soon. I am sending love to his family. Yvonne

I met Mike when I was working at Hunts Photo Lab in South Portland. He was a regular at the shop, always staying to genuinely see how everyone was doing and even making friends with the customers. I had the honor of being photographed by him in his studio on two separate occasions, and also printed the largest photographic print he's ever made which was on display in a show he was in at Cove Street Arts in Portland, Maine. His attention for detail and ability to make genuine connections with people made him an incredible photographer and friend. Mike and I would sit in his apartment for hours, talking about life, editing photos, watching youtube videos, listening to music, swapping stories, and laughing. I lived in Brooklyn and Manhattan when I was in college, so we instantly bonded about living in the city. That man was full of stories, and I am blessed to have heard so many of them. He respected me as a human being and an artist, and was never shy to be both brutally honest and understanding of how hard and beautiful life is. He is one of the most special people I have ever met, one of my favorite people in the whole world. I will miss him terribly and forever cherish every moment we had together, and my heart goes out to his family and his friends. We will all miss him.

I knew Mike since I was about 12, he always felt safe in my world that was not safe.
We drifted apart and reconnected in 2011.
He cooked us all a magnificent lobster dinner at a reunion for Greenwich village kids of the sixties.
We stayed in touch and shared a love of art, music, cooking, photography and writing. He, in my eyes was a master at everything he did. He was one of the most tender hearted and simultaneously courageous people I know. He leaves a amazing legacy. I can only imagine how magnificent his kids are, Sending much love to all 3 may you find peace in your hearts.
See you soon friend.
