Michael Keil Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 14, 2025.
Michael John "Mike" Keil, age 70, went to be with Jesus on May 1, 2025, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, as a result of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Born on September 21, 1954, in the same city he called home throughout his life, Mike left behind a legacy of quiet strength, unwavering commitment to others, and profound transformation.

A graduate of Creston High School in the Class of 1973, Mike went on to study Machine Tooling at Grand Rapids Community College. His professional journey was marked by dedication and versatility-he worked as a supervisor in packaging and later as an over-the-road driver for a moving company. Mike retired from Paragon Die and Engineering after working there for nearly 30 years. Throughout his career, Mike was known for his reliability and work ethic.

Mike's life was defined not only by his work but also by the passions that brought him joy and purpose. Aa a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast, Mike had a special love for antique Indian and Harley Davidson bikes. He found freedom on the open road and loved traveling across the country to motorcycle rallies and visiting national parks. Mike loved music and attended live concerts of his favorite artists whenever he could, especially The Grateful Dead, Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders, John Hiatt, Buddy Miller and Emmylou Harris. Whether attending an antique motorcycle event, teeing off on the golf course, or competing in a billiards league, Mike embraced life with enthusiasm.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Mike's journey was his commitment to sobriety and service to AA. Celebrating 33 years clean and sober, he was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous. Through District 7 and Area 34, he served tirelessly, serving as a treasurer and most recently as a Treatment Center Liaison. Mike offered hope and guidance to others walking the path he once traveled himself. His story stood as a shining example of personal transformation-proof that change is possible with faith courage and community.

Faith played a central role in Mike's life in recent years. For over a decade, he was a devoted member of Home Acres Reformed Church. He contributed faithfully to Sunday services by managing sound equipment and served on the church consistory twice as a deacon and once as an elder. His quiet steadfastness made him someone others could count on-whether at church, among friends in recovery, or within his family circle.

Mike is survived by his loving wife Andria Keil; stepson Dylan Morcom; sister-in-law Renee Keil; nieces Melissa Collins and Briana Spars; grandniece and nephews; as well as an aunt and cousins who will remember him with affection. He was preceded in death by his parents Mary and Richard Keil, along with his brothers Richard Keil and Dan Keil.

Mike's legacy lives on through those whose lives he touched-with kindness, dependability, humility, and grace as well as his dry sense of humor. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.

A Memorial Service will be held on June 21, 2025, beginning at 2:00 p.m., at Home Acres Reformed Church, located at 21 Murray Street SE, Grand Rapids, MI.

For all bikers who attend, riding to the memorial is strongly encouraged. Mike's family would greatly appreciate as many bikes in attendance as possible.

Family will receive visitors at the church from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m..

Memorial service will begin at 3:00 with a meal to follow directly after.

For those who wish to participate, after the meal, a motorcycle ride is planned followed by a fire and fellowship in Hastings.

The ride will leave the church around 5:30. Details will be given at the memorial.

Fron the Brookside golf league. We loved getting to know Mike all these years on the league. We will miss his laugh and humor. Mike was always a positive person. I know a lot of the league were blessed to call him our friend. Rest in peace. Ride the eternal highway in the sky on that bike.

I will miss you dearly Uncle Mike....still can't believe this is real...the only thing making me okay with it is knowing that you are at peace and you are with your brothers. Just make sure Mary doesn't yell too much :)

I had known Mike for 20 years or more when he passed and considered him to be a good friend. We attended concerts together, shared our similar political views, similar musical tastes and our experiences as rabble rousers in the 60s and beyond. He was a member of and regular participant in our AA home group and was actively involved in serving the recovery community. Mike will be missed by many ...

Mike was a great neighbor to have. He was there to help me when there were things I could not do or if I needed to borrow a tool. He will not only be missed by myself but by Mocha as well. Mocha loved Mike. Every time Mike left the house, whether it was just going outside to do something or to actually go somewhere, Mocha had to go outside to get his affection from Mike. Mocha still jumps up to go outside when he hears a motorcycle. Thank you Mike for being such a great person. I am greatful to have had the chance to know you and call you my friend. Keep on riding on!
