MR. MIKE KINZER Mr. Michael Prim "Mike" Kinzer, 77, local pharmacist and former member of the Maury County Commission and the Maury County Board of Education, died Saturday, August 2, 2003 at Life Care Center of Columbia. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Oakes and Nichols with Thomas Kinzer Gilliam, Ronnie Norman, and King McCarver officiating. Burial will be in the Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the West 7th Street Church of Christ Building Fund, East Side Church of Christ or Arkland Church of Christ. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Elliotte Comer Kinzer and Cornelia Beard Kinzer. He was a graduate of Columbia Central High School. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U. S. Army and served his country in the Philippines during World War II. He received his pre-pharmacy education at David Lipscomb College in Nashville, Tennessee and his Pharmacy Degree at Southern College of Pharmacy (Mercer University) in Atlanta, Georgia. Mr. Kinzer practiced pharmacy for 51 years. He was a partner in Woldridge Drug Company with Julian, Terry and Jimmy Mays. He and his family owned and operated Kinzer Drug Company in Campbell Plaza for several years. He served as Director of Pharmacy for Baptist/Hickman County Hospital for 10 years. Mr. Kinzer was also associated with Holland's Pharmacy in Columbia. Mr. Kinzer served on the Maury County Commission for 22 years and during his tenure, served as chairman of many committees, including the committee that established the Maury County Ambulance Service and the Maury County Schools Committee. Mr. Kinzer served on the Maury County Board of Education from 1998 to 2002. He served as an elder of the Church of Christ at Arkland, was member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19 and a former member of the Maury County Community Band. Mr. Kinzer leaves his wife of 41 years, Faye Lentz Kinzer. The Kinzers have made their home in the Sawdust Community for the past 38 years. In addition, he is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael (Kim) Kinzer, Jr. of Sawdust and Elliotte (Claudia) Kinzer of Columbia; and a daughter and son-in-law, Sarah Jane Kinzer (J.) Baugh of Franklin; four granddaughters, Emily Kinzer, Kaelin Kinzer, Neely Baugh, Amanda Baugh and an unborn grandson, McCauley Allen Kinzer; a sister-in-law, Helen Kinzer of Columbia; nephews, Bill Kinzer of Springfield, Illinois and Thomas Kinzer Gilliam of Blacksburg, Virginia and a niece, Deborah Gilliam Quinn of Woodstock, Georgia. Mr. Kinzer is also survived by other nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his sister, Alma Lee Kinzer Gilliam and brother, Bill Beakley Kinzer Pallbearers will be Joe LaCroix, Hillious Sullivan, Mike Lentz, Allen Lentz, Bill Kinzer and Victor Beck. Honorary pallbearers Dr. John Simmons, Dr. Reams Powers, Dr. Gibran Naddy, Valton Rummage, Carl Harris, Jimmy Mays, Terry Mays, Wayne Lentz, Bill Lentz, Kenneth Lentz, Bennie Gattis, Leonard Johnson, Lewis Love, the men of Arkland Church of Christ, the staff at Baptist/Hickman County Hospital, the staff of 5 West at Maury Regional Hospital, Phillip Crane, and the staff at Life Care Center of Columbia.
