MACOMB - Michael Kent Marlow, 60, of Macomb passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2010.
He left this life to spend eternity with his Lord and Savior peacefully at home surrounded by his family following a two-year battle with cancer.
He was born on Sept. 24, 1949, in Macomb, the son of Willard "Hap" and Bessie R. Miller Marlow. His father, Willard "Hap" Marlow of Macomb, survives.
He married Bonnie Kathleen Kugler on June 16, 1969. Together they had three children, Christopher Michael (Heidi) Marlow of Muncie, Ind., Jennifer Michelle (David) Chatterton of Champaign, Ill., and Sarah Elizabeth (Trideep) Das of Schaumburg, Ill.
Mike married Jean Ann Wilde-Tifft on Aug. 6, 2005, and added two stepsons to his family, Christopher (Heather) Tifft of Hobbs, N.M., and Chase Tifft of Macomb. He is also the proud grandfather of seven grandchildren, Taylor, Colby, Hadley, Bryn, Meredith, Simon and Kamryn. One sister, Linda (David) Pyles of Macomb, also survives, as do many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie, an aunt, and maternal and paternal grandparents.
He graduated from Macomb High School in 1967 and also attended Western Illinois University, where he played football.
He was a member of the Illinois National Guard for a number of years.
Our family came together to fight this battle with him and became empowered by his strength. We continued to be inspired by his amazing perseverance. We will forever respect him for his courage and determination; he will live on in our hearts always.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, March 22, 2010, at the First Christian Church in Macomb. The Rev. Steven Workman will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Dodsworth-Piper-Wallen Funeral Home. Cremation will be accorded after the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the McDonough District Hospital Hospice Program or the Hope Lodge at the University of Iowa.
