MONTEREY - Milagros P. Alejo, 59, lost her inspirational battle to cancer on Wednesday, February 16, 2011. She passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loved ones. Mila was born in the Philippines and migrated to the Monterey Peninsula with her family at the age of 13. She graduated from Seaside High School, attended Monterey Peninsula College and then began her lifelong banking career.
Mila will always be remembered for her passion for bringing everyone together, playing with her grandchildren, making jewelry, arts and crafts, cooking and entertaining for all those she held dear. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends whom she had touched throughout her very memorable life.
Mila's life may have seemed short to many, but those who were touched by her understood that the quality of her existence far exceeded the quantity of time in which she lived.
Mila is survived by her mother, Juanita P. Alejo; her daughters, Milda and Barbara Iliscupidez; her grandchildren, Dominic and Anthony Nehring; and her siblings: Maria Theresa Cosur, Antonette (Chris) Elpedes, Julius (Debbie) Alejo, Stan (Leslie) Alejo, Butch (Kay) Alejo, Luisa (John) Musni, Corazon Alejo, Elizabeth Larroque, Virgil (Debra) Alejo; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Mission Mortuary on Monday, February 21, 2011 from 5:00-8:00pm and Tuesday, February 22, 2011 from 5:00pm with a 7:00pm Rosary. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 9:00am at San Carlos Cathedral. A reception to celebrate her life will follow the services at the Marina Filipino-American Hall.

Mom, I cant believe a year has past. My heart aches for you the same as it did the moment we found out you were sick and the moment you left us. I love you mom. I wish there was a way to make the sadness, emptiness and pain subside. Your absence has affected me an our family in ways I never thought. You are a light in my life and the rock I could always depend on... You still are and always will be my shining star. I look to you mom always...

Mom...we miss you. I hope that you guide my boys and watch over us. You are so special and not a day goes by that makes your absence any easier.

My Dear Mila,
I am still shock to hear that you are gone. I just learned from someone that you passed away so I search the orbituaries in Monterey and I found you. You were my first friend when we came here to Marina, Ca in 1966 and we went to school together since then and we were like sisters. I met your wonderful family especially your parents, they were always nice to me and made me feel like part of your family. The two of us have done a lot of wonderful memorable things together during the years we were growing up. We lost touch from each other and went on our seperate ways, but I've always remember you so I finally gotten in touch with you again last 2002-2003 and remenished the good old days. I feel so sad that my best friend, sister is gone and I will miss you tremendously. I'll always keep you in my heart. With all my love, Jeana (del Campo) Bottomley
