Mildred was a life-long resident of Hubbard County. Born on August 17, 1913 to Rollin Story and Jennie Ferrier Story, she grew up in Hubbard. A 1931 graduate of Park Rapids High School, she went on to get her teaching certificate and taught in the county school in Hubbard.
Mildred married Jake Broadbent in 1936, spending the first years of her married life in Hubbard. They moved to Park Rapids in 1944 and started a small dairy farm. She continued to live at that location until her move to Diamond Willow in 2011.
In addition to her family and friends, Mildred’s great joys in life were her flowers and her birds. She always looked forward to Spring planting and the return of her beloved bluebirds.
Our many thanks to the wonderful staff at Diamond Willow, her adopted family. We especially appreciate the tender care they gave Mildred in the final two months of her life.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids with Rev. Abe Cardosa officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to the service. Mildred was a very sweet lady with a good sense of humor. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to love a lil 100+ aged lady with so much spunk. I am sure she is having a grand time tending to god's garden. ❤

Dear Mildred and family,
Friendship, hugs ,laughter and wonderful advice are my many memories of her, she had a twinkle in her eye and a smile for your visits.
She enjoyed all kinds of people and she and my Mom had lots of fun times and cups of coffee talking about the past and how they saw the future.
Thanks Mildred for all the letters, pictures, dish towel and visits, God has a special angel now to help feed the birds and sing with the angels, oh and please give Mom a hug from all of us, we miss her and we will miss you also. Until the next visit Mildred ... hugs

My mother's life long friend, and my favorite pen pal of all time for the past 2 1/2 years, I shall miss those letters back and forth. I learned a lot from her in her final years. Her humor was never lacking, in letters or phone calls. You were so fortunate to have her for so many years. I smile when I think of her.
