Mildred Oestern Obituary

Mildred C. Oestern, 85, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at Jackson County Public Hospital in Maquoketa following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Maquoketa with the Rev. James Chappell officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Maquoketa. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa where a vigil service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Memorials are preferred.
Mildred Catherine McMahon was born Feb. 20, 1919, in Raymond, Iowa, to C.J. and Mary (Lindner) McMahon. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Waterloo, Iowa. She married Ralph C. Oestern on Jan. 2, 1945, near Hudson, Iowa, in Black Hawk County. Ralph died on Jan. 20, 1998.
Mildred worked in several hospitals, including Jackson County Hospital in Maquoketa, retiring in 1969.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen (Mrs. Tom) Hinz, of Pontiac, Ill., and Paula (Mrs. Richard) Jedlicka, of Lisbon, Iowa; one son, Gery (and Kitty) Oestern, of Maquoketa; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary (Mrs. Paul) Gengler, of Waterloo, Iowa; and three brothers, Jim McMahon, of Waterloo, Robert McMahon, of Dewar, Iowa, and Donald McMahon, of Bakersfield, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two grandchildren, her parents and three brothers.
