Nan Moseley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 9, 2024.
Our dear friend, sister, horse woman and dog lover Nan Moseley passed away peacefully after a sudden illness April 27 in Charlottesville, VA.

She is survived by her sister, Maggie Moseley, and preceded in death by her father, Harold Wilcox Moseley and mother Margaret Louise Moseley Jewett

Nan was born April 11, 1945 in Washington DC. The daughter of a US Consul appointed by President Dwight D. Eisenhower sent the family overseas. She was raised in France, Paris and St. Jean Cap Ferrari, Germany, England, Switzerland and Monoco. Boarding school in Switzerland and a full young life in Europe allowed Nan to speak three languages.

Nan spent decades sharing her immense knowledge of and skills teaching riding and horsemanship to young riders in and around the horse country in Maryland and Virginia.

The last 20+ years Nan spent living in Charlottesville, VA . She loved her membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and especially treasured the visits from countless young missionaries that visited her on the farm and taught her the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Nan relished her friendships. Among the most treasured were the
Crawford family who shared their farm with her where James and Christy raise their 3 boys, Slate, Atlas and Grant who deeply loved Grandma Nan.

Nan met July "Julis" Djamond from Central African Republic upon arriving in Charlottesville and overtime became like a mother to him. Their loyalty and love for each other found no end. Julius married Iris and is the proud father to Jeremiah Moore and Sariah Davis.

Nan would not want Peter Dutnell, her favorite farmer on earth and her dearest Doug McGowan to go unmentioned as their impact on her life was unmeasured.

A service to celebrate Nan's life will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2024, at 1:00 pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, located at 1275 Timberwood Blvd, Charlottesville, VA 22911.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Charlottesville Albemarle SPCA in Nan's memory.
