Nancy Berryman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 19, 2024.
Nancy Jo Berryman, loving mother of three, adoring and adored wife for 50 years, and great friend to many, passed quietly on July 25, 2024, in the presence of family. Nancy was born February 24th, 1936, to Byron and Olive Countryman and raised on a farm in Dixon, Illinois, a wonderful small town, and hometown to President Ronald Reagan. Nancy graduated from Dixon High School and Katharine Gibbs School in Boston, where she met her husband Frank at a church social.

Nancy was a loving mother to her three daughters, and a wonderful grandmother, mother-in-law, and a second mother to many more. She was an animal lover and parent to a multitude of dogs, cats, and others over the years.

Nancy and Frank raised their family in many locations across the US before settling in California in 1968. They enjoyed many wonderful adventures with the family from camping to offshore sailing. Nancy and Frank traveled the world together during his working years and in retirement. Along the way, Nancy gathered friends wherever she went - practically defining the word "friendly". After losing Frank in 2006, Nancy lived independently in Danville, California, not far from the home they had bought in 1987. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her oldest daughter Dana Tokmakian and husband Ross and their three daughters, Hailey Tokmakian, Jean Buckingham (husband Jay) and Bryce Tokmakian (wife Madison), her daughter Marcy King and husband Ron, and her youngest daughter Whitney Berryman. She was proceeded in death by her brother Raymond Countryman.

The family is holding a private funeral ceremony in Flushing, New York, at the Berryman family plot. A celebration of life in the Danville area will be announced in the fall. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, any contributions be made in her name to your favorite animal charity.

Once again, a heavy heart, bouts of tears, that feeling within that only lessens with time. My dear, sweet, beautiful sister-in-law, who I have known since she was seven, left us, much against her will, on the 25th day of July. She tried so hard to recover and stay. Over the many, many years, whenever, wherever we met, always laughter, smiles, and happiness. Truly my littlest sister. A most difficult realization as I ponder the passing of the years. Nancy Jo Countryman Berryman . . . with me always . . . thoughts and love forever remain.
