Norma PORTER Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix from Jul. 13 to Jul. 14, 2012.
PORTER, Norma Shirley (nee Bell)
January 27, 1933 – July 4, 2012
Norma (Shirley) Porter, beloved wife of Bill, passed away on Wednesday, July 4, 2012 at the age of 79 years after suffering a stroke on the 29th of June, 2012. Shirley was born and raised in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. It was here she met and married the love of her life William (Bill) Porter in 1950 and had their four children. Shirley was the CEO Homemaker dedicated to her family and husband of 62 years. In her earlier years, she provided many hours of service to the communities of Moose Jaw and Tisdale, Saskatchewan. Shirley had a serious love for sports, whether as a player (basketball) or as a fan (hockey, football and basketball). No one dare interrupt her time during the final four college basketball playoffs. She was a modern day grandma who was greatly respected and loved by all her grandchildren. With a strong moral compass, she provided direction and guidance to all; she was Guidance Counselor par Excellence. Shirley was indeed the glue that held the fabric of family strong and together. Shirley was a woman ahead of her time with her unique sense of humor and assertive but loving nature. Her opinions were grounded in honesty but guided with love. Shirley left this world a better place. Her legacy of honesty, family commitment, and love of others will be carried on by all her family. Shirley was predeceased by her husband Bill (May 6, 2012) who she missed terribly. She is survived by her son Bill (Marion), daughters Vicki, Patti (Mark), and Debbie (Roger), and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At Shirley's request, there will be a small family gathering only. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In living memory of Shirley Porter, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W.
