Services for Ola Vee Fitzgerald 93, of Montalba will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Friendship Baptist Church in Blackfoot with the Rev. Lynn Stroud officiating. Music will be provided by the church choir, Tammi Conrad and Mark Pyron. Burial will follow in Rock Church Cemetery under the direction of Bailey and Foster Funeral Home, Palestine. Mrs. Fitzgerald went to be with the Lord Sunday at Greenbrier Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born July 14, 1914, in Montalba to Walter W. and Ola Wilkson Ward. Upon graduating from high school, where she was active in many sports including softball, tennis and basketball. Mrs. Fitzgerald worked as a beautician in the early 1930s. She later worked at K-Woolens Department Store, Palestine Sale Barn, piano teacher, and as a sales lady of Avon products for over 40 years.Mrs. Fitzgerald faithfully enjoyed serving at Friendship Baptist Church in Blackfoot as pianist and organist for over 65 years. She enjoyed painting, quilting, sewing, crocheting and traveling with her buddy Francis Poston.Mrs. Fitzgerald and late husband of over 50 years, Dan, provided music for many revivals, funerals, and old fashion singing throughout East Texas.She was preceded indeath by her parents, husband Dan W. Fitzgerald in 1985; her sister, Oma Lee Sanders; and brother-in-law, H.E. Sanders. Mrs. Fitzgerald is survived by her daughter, Betty Fitzgerald; god son, Delwyn Sims; one very close cousin, Mattie Sammons; her adopted family the Sims family; her special friends, Francis Poston, Brenda Fitzgerald, Patsy Jackson, neighbors and church friends who have been there through the years include Jaquin Pearce, Jimmy Fitzgerald, Essie Henry, Ruby Gray, Tot Titlow, Jo Thornton, the efficient staff of Greenbrier Nursing and Rehab Center in Palestine; and Heart to Heart Hospice of Tyler.Pallbearers will be Jack Thornton, John Poston, A.D. Lightfoot, Mark Pyron, Jimmy Fitzgerald and Curly Garner.Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bailey and Foster Funeral Home, Palestine.
