SOMMERFELD _The family of Rev. Dr. Oscar Sommerfeld sadly announce his sudden passing on May 19, 2004, but at the same time rejoice that he is now with his Lord and Savior. Born on December 7, 1930 in North Battleford, SK to Adolf and Wanda Sommerfeld. The Rev. Dr. Sommerfeld studied at Luther College, the University of Saskatchewan, and Lutheran College and Seminary in Saskatoon. Throughout 33 years of Ministry he served as Pastor at Redeemer Lutheran, Hanna and Scapa; Highwood Lutheran, Calgary; St. Paul's Lutheran, Saskatoon; and as Communications Director of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Canada. He was honoured May 9, 2003 with an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from Concordia Lutheran Seminary, Edmonton. This honor was received in recognition of many years of faithful service given to the Church, his Community and his Country, and his commitment to a firm biblical and confessional stance. Osc leaves behind to mourn his passing and celebrate his life, his loving wife, Martha of 48 years; and their five daughters, Laura (Greg Konotopetz), Lee, Karyn (Randy) Koroluk, Janice and Kirsten; nine grandchildren; two greatgrandchildren; two brothers, Rein of Coquitlam, BC and Elmer (Phyllis) of North Battleford, SK; and many cherished nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Helmut; and sisters-in-law, Eleonore and Ella. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all those who lives he touched. In lieu of flowers, Memorial donations may be made to the Lupus Erythematosus Society of Saskatchewan, The Kidney Foundation or St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Saskatoon. Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 627 Taylor Street East on Saturday, May 22 at 10:30 a.m. Pastors Mark Dressler and Howard Ulmer officiating. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to SASKATOON FUNERAL HOME.
