Owen Vogel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 15, 2025.
Owen James Vogel was born in Billings, Montana, on July 23, 1980, to Carol Hicks and Kenny Vogel. He grew up with a deep love for the outdoors, enjoying camping, fishing, and traveling. A true adventurer at heart, Owen explored places near and far - from road trips across the country on his motorcycle to surfing trips in Mexico, to unforgettable travels in Australia, and trips with friends and family.

Owen had a passion for music, especially rock, loved attending concerts, and was a loyal Raiders fan. Many praised him for his cooking and he often treated his friends with his homemade Kahlua, taking particular pride in his deviled eggs. A gun enthusiast, he learned from his family growing up and later sought a new challenge, which led him to begin competing in shooting events. His adventurous and social spirit carried into his work life as well. After working for FedEx in 2013, he joined the U.S. Postal Service in 2018, where he built lasting friendships who shared many pickle back chasers over the years.

On March 16, 2024, Owen met his love, Maggie, and together they embarked on countless adventures. If it moved fast and made the wind rush past - whether surfing, boating, biking or flying - he was there living it.

Those who knew Owen will remember him as one of the most beautiful souls - genuine, caring, and full of life. He lived more life and embraced more adventures in his years than many do in a lifetime, never wasting an opportunity to show he cared. He was, in every sense, the real deal.

Owen is survived by his loving parents, Carol Hicks (Jay) and Kenny Vogel (Joyce); his love, Maggie Joy; his brothers, Josh Vogel (Lisa), Adam Vogel (Desiree), and Tayler Hicks (Cheyenne); grandfathers Norman Cherry and Gary Schanck; and numerous other relatives and dear friends.

A service to celebrate Owen's life will be held on August 19, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the American Legion, 1540 Broadwater, Billings, Montana, followed by a reception.

I had the fun opportunity to speak with Owen on the telephone for the very first time in 2023, as he had called his Uncle Ron for a chat. I´m only sorry that I never had the chance to meet Owen in person, as I understand from the warm tributes from family, friends and what Cousin Ron Vogel had told me about his nephew, it would have been a nice sit down. Distance and years have passed Cousin Kenny, since the great "Vogel Reunion" photo taken in Grandma Vogel´s backyard in the 1970´s when we were just mere youngsters, family is family, so I offer my heart felt sympathies to you, Kenny, Carol, Owen´s brothers, and Maggie, as grief is a journey and Owen will be thought of many times with smiles, laughs and certainly tears and missed ever so greatly!
I offer my Sincere Condolences...
Love,
Pamela Vogel (Livermore, Colorado)

Owen was such an easygoing guy. I never saw him get too upset unless it was standing up to management. He was so quiet and reserved but there was so much life to this guy. He will be missed by so many.

I met Owen only once, but had heard many kind and wonderful things about him. I enjoyed the conversation and feel blessed I had that moment. Kathy from Missouri

Owen was such a funny and smart guy! He taught me so much at the post office, as we did a lot of collections together. He could really back up a giant truck like it was nothing. I really respected and admired him greatly. His death is a tragic loss. Thinking of Owen's loved ones during this painful time.
