Palmer P. Sorensen "Skip", age 83, of Vero Beach, FL, passed away on January 28, 2011 at Hospice House.

He was born in Manhattan, NY to Hans and Grace Sorensen. Palmer lived in Cleveland, OH, West Simsbury, CT, and New Providence, NJ, before retiring to Vero Beach in 1993. He earned his Bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University, where he was the first mascot for the football team. Skip was a pioneer in injection molding machine equipment and received many awards in the plastic industry. He opened P. Sorensen Sales Company, representing many areas of the plastics industry.

Skip was a proud U.S. Navy Veteran that served in the Pacific Theater during World War II, and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He enjoyed golf, football, music, theater, painting, and driving around town in his red convertible car.

Skip is survived by Jane, his wife of 43 years; his children, Jeffery Swagger of Delray Beach, FL, Jon Swagger, and his wife Carol, of Nashville, TN, Martha Countegan, and her husband Dale, of Farmington Hills, MI, Lisa McKeown, and her husband John, of Flemington, NJ, Richard Swagger of Nashville, TN, and Mark Sorensen, and his wife Theresa of Sacramento, CA; grandchildren Michelle Ring, and her husband Karl, Catherine Swagger, James Swagger, Carolyn Countegan, John McKeown, and Kelly McKeown; and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents Hans and Grace Sorensen and one sister.

A gathering of friends will be from 1 to 2 PM, with a memorial service beginning at 2 PM, on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Aycock Funeral Home in Fort Pierce, FL. Interment will be at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice of Vero Beach, 901 37th Street, Vero Beach, FL 32960.
