Patricia Davis Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 10, 2025.
Patricia Lockwood Davis died on June 2, 2025, in Chapel Hill, NC, at the age of 90. Patricia will be remembered as an artist, teacher, wife, sister, aunt, step-mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and loyal friend.

Patricia was born Patricia Elsie Lockwood on September 10, 1934, in Queens, NY, and lived her childhood in Ridgewood, Queens. During her young adult years, she pursued art, studying and teaching art at colleges and art institutes throughout New York and New England.

Later in life, Patricia unexpectedly found an interest in bookkeeping and built a career providing bookkeeping services for small businesses and nonprofits in the Boston area. During this time, she met Michael Davis. Four years later, they married in the 100-year-old house they bought in Roslindale, MA, which they enjoyed renovating.

Patricia and Mike moved to Chapel Hill in 2001 and to Carol Woods Retirement Community in 2006, where they met countless friends and enjoyed being part of the community. At Carol Woods, Patricia continued to draw, paint, and build a community of artists and art lovers.

Patricia was a genuine, loving, and creative soul. She won the hearts of everyone she met. To know her was to love and admire her. Her authentic smile and laugh was pure joy. She loved books and ideas, and she loved supporting her friends and family in all they did. Always the student of life, the arts, and humanities, she never stopped learning. Patricia earned her Botanical Illustration Certificate in her 80s. In 2014, seeing an opportunity to showcase residents' art, Patricia created and led the Resident Artist Exhibition program at Carol Woods.

Patricia has left an indelible mark on all who knew her. There has never been another like her, and there likely never will. Patricia is preceded in death by her husband, Michael; her parents; and her older brothers, Jack and George. She is survived by her twin brother Bill; her step-children: Peter, Rebecca, Gwendolyn, Michael (Kate), and Chris; eight step-grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; her brothers' children: John, Patricia, Susan, Mark, Jim, Jennifer, Juliet, and John, and their families; as well as countless friends.

A service celebrating Patricia will take place at 12:00 pm on June 22, 2025, at Carol Woods. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Carol Woods Foundation or to a charity that is meaningful to you.

When I think of Patricia I think of smiles and hugs. I spent time with her and Mike and my parents at our Canada camps. She was always warm and always loving towards me and others. Her laughs and smiles cam easy. I had not seen her for a few years but I will always miss you!

As a child of three my father passed away Patricia was my aunt and I was told that she left the convent to help my mother raise her 4 children
I remember her teaching me to tie my shoes . Over the years she was always close by . She lived lived in an apartment at 21 Davis ave , which was just around the corner . I did a painting of her door front when I turned 21 . I thought it was a funny marker of time . I am now 58 and realize that again time has passed and so has Patricia . She will always be a part of me and my life . Love Johny
