Patricia Gaupp Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 23, 2024.
Patricia Ann Chamblin Gaupp of West Hartford, Connecticut passed away peacefully on May 20, 2024 at the age of 79 after living courageously with advanced dementia for several years.

Patty was born in Racine, Wisconsin on February 7, 1945 to Dorothy and Col. Frances "Lonnie" Chamblin (US Army, Retired). She grew up moving regularly-around the US and Germany-while her father served in the US Army. Patty graduated high school from McLean High School in McLean, Virginia and earned her BA from Indiana University where she was a proud member of the Indiana Beta chapter of the Pi Beta Phi sisterhood. She went on to earn her PhD in clinical psychology from Penn State University. Continuing to explore the world, Patty moved to South Korea where she began her own family before returning to the US and settling first in San Antonio, Texas and finally in West Hartford

Patty spent her lengthy and devoted career treating children and adults at Brooke Army Medical Center, Connecticut Regional Center, Newington Children's Hospital, UConn Health Center, Avon Old Farms School and in private practice. She held her patients and colleagues in the highest esteem and treated them with empathy, dignity, and attentive care. Patty loved to sing, was a remarkably skilled sewist, was a generous member in several parishes of the Episcopal Church, took tremendous joy in each of her beloved dogs (especially sharing fried chicken with them), and was active in the Connecticut Chapter of the Sierra Club where she relished in nature and found treasured, heroic friends, including Joyce, David, Ruth, Gail, Dennis and Lynne. Patty will live on through her son Dr. Abraham Gaupp with his wife Dr. Christina Lewicky Gaupp, and grandchildren William, Thomas, and Henry of Winnetka, Illinois and through her daughter Anna-Emily Gaupp and grandchildren Grover and Mazzy of West Hartford. She is remembered by her sisters Connie Downs with her husband Robert, and Mary Beth Cafaro with her husband Joseph, Sr., along with a blessing of beautiful nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, and great-grand nieces and nephews. Patty is embraced in her transition by her parents, the father of her children Larry, and her nephew Joseph, Jr. Patty's family would like to extend its deepest gratitude to Amy Greika, and the living saints of West Hartford Health & Rehab's Tranquility unit for their compassionate care. Calling hours will be held on May 24, 2024, from 12-2pm including a service honoring Patty beginning at 1:30pm at Brooklawn Funeral Home in Rocky Hill, CT. In remembrance of Patty's life, please consider a donation in her honor to the Connecticut Chapter of the Sierra Club (www.connecticut.sierraclub.org/contribute).
