PATRICIA LUTTRELL Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 19, 2017.
Born in Chicago, Pat grew up in Tinley Park, Illinois, graduating from Tinley Park Elementary and Bremen Township High School. Pat was a true people person with abounding sweetness. She met Guy, her husband for 57 years and 10 months, in Tinley. In addition to Guy, she is survived by son Greg Luttrell and wife Karol, daughter Lori Simonson and husband Rob, grandchildren Amy and Doug Luttrell and CJ and Danny Simonson, sister Barb Kahl and husband Dave, as well as so many others that she “mothered” over the years.

Following family moves to Indiana, Arizona, California, Illinois and Minnesota, with children in school, she entered the workforce as a waitress while completing an Associate in Arts degree. This led to positions with two firms in the Minneapolis area as office manager. With a final move to Arizona in 1984, she found America West, a young airline hiring flight attendants, and applied. The rest is history.

Pat graduated with class 21 at America West and was cross-trained to work any position: be it flight attendant, ticket agent, or baggage handler. When forced to choose a position, she chose full time flight attendant and traveled far and wide during her career. Pat retired after 28 years of service in the air leaving pleased passengers, wonderful work mates, soothed crying babies, and untold back rubs for stressed pilots and flight attendants in her wake.

After retiring from the airline, Pat continued her volunteer work with the Phoenix Symphony, honed her skills as a bell ringer at church, began practicing yoga, traveled, cared for her family and friends, and joined the Phoenix Navigators at Sky Harbor Airport (volunteers with purple coats who act as roving concierges helping passengers find their way around). All of these outlets allowed Pat to do what she did best: love others. Those who have ever crossed her path will remember her as a doting mother, amazing cook, skilled seamstress, creative mind, crossword fiend, music lover, giver of joy, wonderful listener, and adventurer.

You are welcome to join family and friends at 2:00pm on July 22nd to celebrate Pat. A service will be held at The Bridge United Methodist Church, 4900 E Thomas Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85018 with a reception to follow.

Hospice of the Valley treated Pat with the love, respect, and grace she deserved her last week with us. For that, we are grateful. If you feel called to make a donation in her name, please consider:

Through my old friend Guy I've always known what a dear wife and life partner Pat was for him, and what a devastating he is suffering. He could not have asked for a more loving, faithful, compassionate, and supportive person with whom to share life. She was obviously also a wonderful mother, daughter, daughter-in-law, co-worker, and friend who will also be sorely missed by many others. My profound sympathies go out to the entire Luttrell family.

I have known Pat for many years as she always attended the Phx. College orchestra concerts where Guy and I have been part of the Fr. horn section. She was a wonderful person to know with her ready smile and great personality. I had seen her in their home a few times when the horn section had a practice on some of the music. She will be missed by all. Prayers and thoughts are wished to the entire family. Sorry we are out of state now with guests coming and cannot be there for services. Diane & Don Spirk

I had the pleasure of working with Pat only once when the airline was America West. Yet I remember this lovely lady so well. She was funny, full of energy, kind , gracious to passengers,
her co-workers and had a truly genuine smile. She was someone I would not have only enjoyed working with all the time but have as a neighbor and friend. I grew up in So. Calif. and she was the one who explained to me what the circles were on the ground in the Midwest. We both laughed that I had no concept of farming.
She will be remembered and missed by so many. Thoughts and Prayers to her family and loved ones.

I wished I could have attended her celebration of life service but was at summer camp as a counselor. Which leads to my precious memory of her. She was camp grandmother at summer camp - freely offering her gifts of love included really noticing the campers and listening to them and providing great hugs on the way into the various meals. She was a wonderful people person and she will be missed. I send love to her beloved family members.
