Paulette Brown Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 13, 2025.
San Antonio - With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Paulette Elizabeth Brown (Mehlisch), affectionately known as Polly, at the age of 69. She passed away on Friday, March 7th, 2025, at Northeast Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, surrounded by those who loved her. She was preceded in death by her father, Selby, and mother, Dee. Polly is lovingly survived by her devoted husband, Dr. Donald Mehlisch; her children, Lindsey and Ethan; her brothers, Paul and Perry; and a close-knit circle of family and friends who will miss her dearly.

Polly was born on December 11th, 1955, in Thibodaux, Louisiana but spent much of her life outside her hometown. She graduated early from McCallum High School in Austin, Texas, before pursuing a career in nursing. Polly earned her Master's degree from Graceland University and had an illustrious career in both nursing and medical research. Her work took her all over the world-across Asia, Europe, Antarctica, and Latin America-where her expertise not only advanced medical research but also made a profound impact on underserved communities. From the mountains of Tibet to the villages of Honduras, Polly touched countless lives with her compassion and dedication.

A true pillar in the nursing community, Polly balanced her remarkable professional achievements with being a loving mother, wife, and friend. Her quick wit, sharp intellect, and kind spirit will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held in Palm Desert, California, one of the many places Polly held close to her heart. She will be laid to rest in a community that was dear to her. For more details regarding the memorial, please contact the family for the time and date of the gathering.

Polly's legacy of kindness, warmth, and selfless service to others will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Don, my family and I have so many fond memories of the last 20 + years since we became friends. From visiting with you both in Austin, Marble Falls, Whidbey Island, Durango, Palm Desert and now in San Antonio. You and Polly were such wonderful hosts. My son still recalls our visit in Austin when we all played golf, went to the UT Texas game and toured part of the campus with you and Polly. I won´t forget the hospitality my wife and I shared with you and Polly and how gracious of a host she was on numerous occasions. She made everyone feel so welcome and comfortable. What a blessing she was. I know that after 40+ years of marriage it will be difficult to not have her by your side. You have a lifetime of wonderful memories that you can reflect on which not everyone has. I hope those memories can bring you comfort, knowing that the two of you shared a life well lived full of adventure and love.

Hi Don,
Thoughts and prayers are with you. We appreciate all the good times the golf teams spent with Paulette and you. She always treated us as very special guests. She helped the girls team especially feel welcome when we visited California. We will miss her and will continue to pray for you.
