Peggy Nieland Obituary
Peggy attended Robinsdale High School in Minneapolis during which time she met Russell Nieland who she later married. The couple moved to Duluth and had two children.
She was active in art programs and Early Childhood Family Education. When she wasn't creating pottery, gardening, or participating in quilting and sewing groups, she was planning and enjoying time with loved ones at the family cabin in the boundary waters. Peggy also helped her husband Russ open, run, and expand a successful physical therapy practice in Duluth-Northern Arm & Hand.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by her brother Rodger Garis (wife Carolyn), children Chelsea Nieland (wife Christine Danahy), Jakob Nieland (spouse Samantha Goette), and granddaughter Berkley Nieland.

I first met Peggy in the Duluth airport. I was joining Peg and Russ and Chelsea and my daughter, Christine, for a trip to "the cabin." We became friends almost immediately. We spent a great weekend in the Canadian wilderness. Over that weekend we formed a friendship that lasted through the joining of our two families with the wedding of Chelsea and Christine. At the end of that trip I spent time at their Duluth home and they visited me and my wife at our home in North Carolina for Thanksgiving. Sadly in a only few short years both Russ and Peg passed away. With the two of them, it wasn't a long friendship; But it was a good one. It flared up quickly, burned brightly and then ended too soon.

I remember taking the metal canoe out with Peg at the cabin and enjoying the beavers until a thunderstorm popped up. You never saw 2 girls paddle so fast with lightning all around.
