DR. PETER S.
57, of Murrysville, died April 14, 2012. He was born June 30, 1954 in Pittsburgh, son of Pete and Margueritte (Martinez) Maropis. He was a member of the Athletic and Academic Hall of Fame at Allegheny College. He went on to play professional baseball for the Chicago White Sox for four years. After his professional career, he became a self-employed dentist, serving the community for 31 years. He was an avid golfer and lifelong fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers. He attended the Keystone Christian Church in Export, PA. Loving husband of Kathryn (Stewart) Maropis and proud father of sons, Dr. Peter S. Maropis and Matthew Maropis; also survived by brothers, Michael (Debarah) Maropis of Chicago and Patrick Maropis of New York City, and niece and nephew, Michal Jane and Derek Maropis of Chicago. Visitation with family and friends will be held at HART FUNERAL HOME, INC., 3103 Lillian Ave., Murrysville, PA 15668 on Monday, April 16 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 17 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Murrysville Cemetery. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Keystone Christian Church, 5853 Washington Ave., Export, PA 15632. Please visit:

Pete was an extraordinary man of integrity and perfection in both his professional and personal lives. His patients were also his family and knew that we received the same care. Indeed, the world was a better place with his presence and he will be greatly missed.

I just read about Peter's death in the Allegheny College magazine. I was his lab instructor and he was the nicest and most enthusiastic kid in my lab! He was talented in sports and science! My condolences to the family. This is so sad!

To the Maropis Family
I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Pete. We have two sons about the same age of Pete and Matt and I always looked forward to our chats over the years. We moved out of Monroeville, but never even considered changing dentists. The world isn't as good today as it was when he was living.

Kathy, to you and your family my deepest condolonces in Pete's passing. Durwin Gates called me last evening and told me of seeing the notice in the paper. I am as you are shocked. We don't see each other as often as we would like but the memories of past dental school days last forever, and Pete was as class an act as we had in our class. My best.

I haven't seen Pete for close to 40 years, but he was a classmate and neighbor. I remember him as athletic and intelligent and am sorry to hear of his death. We grow older and move on, but Burgettstown is still inside us.

I knew Pete as a friend, way back in our Jr.-Sr. High School days in Burgettstown. We didn't keep in contact over the years, but when I heard of his passing, I thought, “Pete was one of the good guys.” From what I've seen and read here, it's evident that that never changed.
