Philip Dell'Olio Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 9 to Mar. 10, 2023.
Philip Joseph Dell'Olio passed away peacefully on March 5th, 2023 at the age of 73. Born on March 6th, 1949, Philip is survived by his two loving daughters, Andrea Gwynne (James) and Christina Labriola (Joseph), and his longtime partner, Stephanie Lopez. He leaves behind four grandchildren whom he adored, Blaise (9), Georgia (5), Philip (2) and James (3 months).

Born and raised in Manhattan's Little Italy on Mulberry Street, Philip was a second-generation Italian American who took great pride in his heritage, neighborhood and family. As the owner of Andrea's Fish Market, Philip worked early morning hours at the Fulton Fish Market since 1975. He raised his family in Stuyvesant Town where he was a much beloved member of the community. Always quick with a joke and a smile, everyone knew and loved "Phil the fish guy."

A vibrant and energetic man, Philip had many interests, passions and friends. The son of a fishermen from Bisceglie Italy and born a Pisces, the water and beach were a fabric of his being. He enjoyed spending time on the beaches of the Hamptons and Puerto Rico. Music was one of his greatest passions and he had vast knowledge of everything from jazz to classical, doo wop and hip hop.

As a solid athlete during his youth where he excelled in stickball, he later took up paddleball when he became a father and played religiously every weekend up until the age of 72. Nothing gave him more joy than watching the New York Rangers with his family.

Philip will be remembered at his childhood parish, Church of the Transfiguration (Mott Street), on Saturday, April 22nd, 2023 at 12pm.

Many blessings on his family. I never met Phil but he was a good friend to my daughter and I felt like I knew him. He would ask about me and I would ask her about him. My prayers are with Phil and his loving family. Rest in Peace.

A wonderful man. A great many people will miss him. Those of us privileged enough to have known him, don't need a list of his qualities, we know what they were. May his memory live on with his family and friends and may his voice come to us at unexpected, contemplative moments.

Philip and I hung out in the neighborhood and played ball together when we were kids. We shared many good times. Everybody liked Philip and his winning personality. My sincere condolences to Philip's family. May God hold Philip in His arms.

I grew up with Philip at 79 Mulberry Street in Little Italy. He and his family lived on the third floor and mine and my cousin Vinny's had the fourth. As kids, we made a million memories in sports, in school, and in just hanging out in the building. We reconnected on Facebook and it has been a great joy to see the family photos that made his life so rich. I will miss my old friend but I know his memory will live on in his family. Thank you Philip for the happiness you brought to so many of us. My condolences to all who loved him.
