Dr. Philip "Phil" Meyers Landau, 69 years old, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 11, 2020, after a long and courageous battle with advanced heart failure. Surrounded by a family that adored him, he lived a life of unconditional love and kindness and will be forever missed by his devoted wife of almost 44 years, Myra; his three daughters, Lauren (David) Goldberg, Meredith (Rishi) Maheshwary, and Erica (Brian) Kelly; his grandchildren, Paige, Liza, Will, Emily, Jacob, and Brooke. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Ruth and Herbert Landau. Born on November 21, 1950, Phil grew up in Squirrel Hill and graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School. He was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of The Pennsylvania State University and The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Board certified in Internal Medicine, with a Geriatrics focus, Phil's medical career spanned 37 years. He was a devoted physician who practiced at St. Margaret's Hospital, HealthSouth Harmarville Rehabilitation Center, and Allegheny Health Network. He served as Medical Director at Longwood at Oakmont from 2003-2017. During the course of his career, Phil's knowledge, professionalism, compassion, and dedication was always apparent in the level of love, attention, and care he gave to his cherished patients. At the heart of Phil's life was his family, who will forever call him their best friend and hero. The embodiment of love, devotion, selflessness and integrity, Phil was the ultimate husband, father, father-in-law, and Pop-Pop whose greatest joy came from spending time with those he loved. As his family grieves this loss, they hold close Phil's legacy of genuine and unparalleled kindness. Phil Landau made the world brighter. The Landau family would like thank all of those who have given them strength, especially Dr. Craig Alpert and the heart failure team and staff at Allegheny General Hospital. I went to Penn State with Phil as an undergrad. Our premed class was pretty tightly knit and small, so we got to know each other fairly well. He was a great friend. Smart, yet down to earth, with a great sense of humor. He had a smile that would light up the room. I just learned of his passing through the “PittMed” alumni magazine. I was struck with sadness. Myra, I believe I met you at my wedding in the mid 70s (no longer married to the same person). I know that he was crazy about you! I’m so glad that you had a wonderful life with him. My thoughts are with you.

I had the pleasure of working with Dr. Landau at the start of my career. There is not enough time or words to express the positive effects Dr. Landau has had on me due to his sincere kindness. He was an excellent mentor and friend. I will be forever grateful for having the pleasure of knowing and being taught by him. May God bless the family and friends of Dr. Laudau, he will be greatly missed!

Dr. Landau was a true gentleman and a fine doctor. He over saw the healthcare of my mother while a patient at The Willows Medical Center and guided me in all related medical decisions I had to make as her daughter. He became not only her attending physician, but a trusted friend. I credit him with granting my mother a quality of life until age 102 and 7 months.
My deepest sympathy to his entire family- He spoke of you often with great pride. In the days to follow may you find comfort and peace in the legacy he has left and the example he has set.

I had the pleasure of Knowing Dr Landau as the Medical Director at Longwood at Oakmont. I was immediately struck by his compassion. Regardless of how late in the evening it was, he always had time for his residents and their families. He would often sit on their bed, holding their hand and gave them the time and attention they needed. After a Nursing career of 40 years, I had never observed that type of tenderness and compassion. He was beloved by all in the Longwood community.

My deepest sympathies to Dr. Landau's family and friends. Dr. Landau was so attentive and generous of his time with all of his patients. Very concerned and appreciative when discussing changes in his patient's health status with all staff members. He would always take the extra time to stop and listen to what you had to say. Dr. Landau was a very caring and respectful human that always had a kind word to say along with encouragement to both his patient's and staff. Thanks for sharing and displaying your dedication towards your profession. I personally always enjoyed our talks and the wisdom that you kindly shared with me. You were the best and will be greatly missed. God Bless You Dr. Landau

Dr. Landau was one of the best and kindest doctors Ive ever had the privilege to work with both at HealthSouth and Longwood. He was always the first one to say hi and ask how you were doing with his smile that truly showed his compassion and his true genuine care about you. You will be truly missed by not just your family, nor your patients, but by the many lives that you touched who all had the pleasure of working with and around you. My prayers to your family that God provides comfort to them knowing you are whole again and that they will see you again one day.
