Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix on Jul. 26, 2012.
SCHOENHALS, Phyllis Lillian
Peacefully entered the presence of her Lord, Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at the age of 92. She was predeceased by Stewart, her loving husband of 55 years; her parents Tom and Lillie Elliott and three sisters Riva Wilson, Bernice Brown and Elva Cox; her son-in-law Gordon Barwell. She will be sadly missed by her children Paul Schoenhals (Holly), Nancy Barwell Kraft (Gerald Kraft), Mark Schoenhals (Rita Milenkovic); loving grandchildren, Susan Schoenhals (Ed Kaczor), Ryan Schoenhals (Katherine), Karyn Schoenhals (Hughe Rose), Kimm and Shauna Connally, Jay Barwell (Pam), Jody Barwell McQueen (Brian McQueen), Jeff Schoenhals (Tamara), Lindsay Schoenhals, Will Smith; great- grandchildren, Sydney and Delaney McQueen, Tanner and Jesse Barwell, Connor, Emmitt and Eliza Schoenhals, Sacha and Soren Kaczor, Stella and Angus Rose, and four-week-old Colten Mark Schoenhals. Phyllis was born in Bayfield, ON and lived in Clinton until 1959 when the family moved to Saskatoon, SK. In 1993 Phyllis and Stew returned to Ontario, moving into The Sands in Georgetown. Family and faith were the cornerstones of Phyllis's life. An active church member, Phyllis had a love for Jesus that she shared with with a gentle and infectious passion to family, friends and neighbours. Always smiling, Phyllis was a much loved and active member in the Georgetown Alliance church, valued by both young and old alike, until suffering a stroke in October, 2011. Phyllis was recognized by many in Georgetown for her lengthy morning walks taken daily until the time of her stroke at the age of 91. The family is extremely grateful to Phyllis's granddaughter Jody Barwell McQueen for the close and constant care she provided to "Greata" through her years in Georgetown and especially through the months following Phyllis's stroke. Jody's tireless care was a great comfort to an extended family spread broadly across the country. Special thanks to the caring staff and members of Georgetown Alliance church and the staff at Halton Hills Extendicare. A Memorial Service will be held at the Georgetown Alliance Church on Sunday, July 29 at 1:30 p.m., reception to follow in the church. A private family Interment will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Living Hope Centre of the Georgetown Alliance Church.

I met Phyllis through her love of animals, she brought a dog to us at the Rangely Animal Shelter that had been left at a ranch where she delivered mail. Phyllis was a wonderful, kind, caring person, we had love for animals in common and she will be greatly missed by her family and friends I am sure, but the animals that knew Phyllis lost a loving and caring advocate. She is looking into the face of Jesus and I know he is telling her job well done my faithful servant.

My sister Heather notified me of Phyllis passing as seen in the Star Phoenix. We have wonderful memories of such a kind, loving and favourite neighbour with that winning smile. She always paid extra attention to our special sister Barb. I have great memories of her as our CGIT leader at Grosvenor Park United during those tumultuous teenage years. I also have a vivid memory of her smiling, laughing and pouring tea at my Trousseau Tea - 36 years ago. Phyllis holds an honoured spot in my early memories of life on 10th St. Our thoughts and prayers go to all of her family. She was a very special lady.

Phyllis is the epitome of a godly woman. We are saddened by her passing but at the same time rejoice that she has forever entered into the presence of our Lord. She had indeed fought the good fight; finished the race and kept her faith. We will miss the times whenever we met she would always ask "How is your son Daniel?". May the Lord grant your family comfort and peace at this time and the hope and assurance that one day you will be reunited with her.
