C'est avec beaucoup de tristesse que je viens d'apprendre le décès de M. Garneau en juillet. In 1973, he hired a inexperienced 18 year old just out of high school as an office clerk at the Royal Society of Canada. With his patient teaching and mentoring I was able to earn the positions of Accounts Receivable Clerk and Clerk in Charge of Publications. After ten years of under his wing, he urged me to move on to a Government position which I held for 30 years. Every Christmas he would take us for lunch and then to his house to meet up with Mrs. Garneau for drinks and conversation. I have so many more fond memories of working with this amazing man. I owe him my career and a lot of the person I became. I am so proud and grateful to have known him. Mes sincères condoléances à la famille Garneau.

We were saddened to hear of Pierres passing. We spent many wonderful times on the Rideau River with Pierre and Lucille. Pierre was a true gentleman in every sense.

It was a very real and heart-felt privilege to have known this officer and gentleman of the old school. He epitomized the ideal Strathcona, in the words of Shakespeare, "nature might stand up and say to all the world, 'this was a man'". God bless you Pierre and sleep well, you are missed.
