Placido Distefano

DISTEFANO Placido Distefano, age 83, beloved and devoted husband of Melina Mangione Distefano of Ansonia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at the Griffin Hospital in Derby. Mr. Distefano was born in Catania, Italy on June 15, 1923, son of the late Francesco and Francesca Fazio Distefano. He was an Ansonia resident since 1982 moving from Rome, Italy. Mr. Distefano earned a PhD in economics and retired after many years as the vice director of the Italian Treasury in Rome, Italy. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading and spending time with his family. Besides his wife Melina, he is survived by two sons, Marcello Distefano and his wife Deborah of Dallas, Texas and Raffaello Distefano and his wife, Deborah of Wrentham, Mass.; a brother, Michele Distefano of Caltanissetta, Sicily, Italy; and special grandchildren Marco, Gabriella, and Isabella Distefano of Wrentham, Mass. and Rachela Distefano of Dallas, Texas; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Salvatore, Orazio, and Nino Distefano. Friends and relatives are invited to attend his funeral on Saturday, February 17, 2007 at 8:15 a.m. from the Spinelli-Malerba-Ricciuti Funeral Home, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia followed by a mass of Christian Burial at 9 a.m. in the Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Peter's Cemetery in Derby. Visiting hours will be held on Friday (TODAY) from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Spinelli-Malerba-Ricciuti Funeral Home.
