Ralph Krannert "Kran" Riddle entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 23rd, 2024 in Savannah, Georgia, surrounded by his loving family. He was 73.

Kran Riddle was born May 2nd, 1951 in Sharon, Pennsylvania to the late Martha Lou Jones Riddle and Kenneth Alfred Riddle. Although born in the Northeast, both of Kran's parents were Alabamians and by Kran's third birthday, he and his family had returned south where Kran was raised in Rome, Georgia.

Kran was the middle son of Martha Lou and Ken, and had many wonderful memories growing up with his older brother, Doug, and his younger brother, Alfy. These memories included camping in their VW camper, hiking and exploring the state parks of the Eastern United States all the way to Colorado and Canada, becoming an Eagle Scout alongside his brothers, and spending all his spare time outdoors or in his dad's workshop.

Kran graduated from Darlington School in Rome, GA and subsequently attended the University of Georgia, becoming a "Double Dawg" when he completed his BA and Juris Doctorate in Athens, GA. After graduation from law school, Kran followed his closest college buddies down to Savannah to plant his roots and begin his law career. Kran met his future wife, Jody in Savannah and after a short romance they started their life together. They were married for nearly 40 years.

Kran was known throughout Savannah as an honest attorney, inspiring soccer coach, avid runner and bicyclist, voracious reader, adept sailor, and a Scoutmaster. Kran was a faithful member of Saint John's Church and served as the Scripture lesson reader on Friday mornings. Kran was an extremely generous and kind man. Many of his clients will tell you that he provided his legal services free of charge; if anyone was enduring hardship, Kran was there to help. One of the highlights of his career was receiving Georgia's "Pro-Bono Attorney of the Year" award. The American Red Cross recorded that Kran donated more than 25 gallons of blood in his lifetime. Kran was extremely handy and could build or repair anything. He renovated their kitchen, built Jody the closet of her dreams, fixed anything that broke, and changed the oil on their vehicles.

Kran loved his family and truly enjoyed spending time with them. He was extremely proud of both his children, Chelsea and Zach. A devoted father, Kran encouraged his children to pursue their own unique interests and talents. He loved playing with his grandchildren, and surely dreamed that they would grow up to be great soccer players and Eagle Scouts. In fact, just this time last year, Kran, Jody, Zach, Chelsea, Reid, and his three grandchildren went on a memorable trip to Alaska where they rode on helicopters, walked on glaciers, and whale watched. At the end of the day though, Kran was a humble, unassuming guy who enjoyed walking his dogs, going to the gym, spending time with Jody, reading books, hiking in the mountains, watching Jeopardy, and eating a Five Guys cheeseburger with a chocolate shake.

Kran is survived by his loving wife, Jody, his two children: Chelsea Castellone (Reid) of Greenwood, South Carolina and Zachary Krannert Riddle of Savannah, Georgia and three grandchildren: Adair June, Frank Kenneth (Kent), and Lynah Anne Castellone, of Greenwood, South Carolina. He is also survived by his brothers, Douglas Riddle (Elaine) of Roswell, Georgia and Alfred Riddle (Glenda) of San Jose, California, and nephew Jess Riddle (Rachel) of Atlanta, Georgia. He is survived by his brothers and sisters in law on Jody's side, including Jan (Al) Modloff of DeKalb, Illinois, Pat Warner of Louisville, Kentucky, and Robert (Sharon) Keeler of Plainfield, Indiana as well as nephews Steven Warner (Ana) and Rob Keeler (Mai) and niece Mandi Harty (Adam) as well as great nieces and nephews Luke, Annie, and Abraham Harty, and Ethan Warner.

Special thank you to Spanish Oaks Retreat and Hospice.

Service: Saint John's Church, 325 Bull Street, Savannah GA 11:00 AM, Friday August 30th. Reception immediately following at the Green Meldrim House.

In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully accepts donations to Saint John's Church or Georgia Legal Services, 104 Marietta St. NW, Suite 250, Atlanta, GA, 30303.

I met him several times. I remember reading in the paper his $20.00 donation each year at Christmas time.

My family lived next door to the Riddles in Garden Lakes. We played together with the Riddle boys all the time. Kran was my age. We loved hunting arrowheads in the neighborhood among so many happy memories. Great family! So very sad to come across this on FB.

Kran was a truly good guy. I went to school with him for 7 years at Darlington in Rome. He never had an unkind word for anybody. He was soft-spoken...one of the top students in our class of '69.

We worked together as editors on our award-winning senior annual which we called the Jabberwok. He was kind enough to say that I was the best writer in our class and should be the one to write the copy about our Jabberwok staff.

I have not seen Kran in about 50 years, but remember him fondly and highly favorably.

My best to his family...I know that they will cherish memories of him as a truly good spouse, parent, and person. He made the world a better place.

We had the privilege of hosting Kran and Jody at our home in Maine last summer. Even though Kran was already going through some medical and cognitive difficulties, he was Jody's and mine (Barbara's) hero - he rescued us when we were lost in the hike up to the top of Mount Battie in Camden, he led the way back to civilization. What a great, fun, time we had that day!

Kran and I found a quite moment together at Chelsea´s wedding reception and he offered his condolences on the loss of my wife. We also spoke briefly about her passing as she was so young. I was so moved by his concern that it will forever be a memory of what a kind and compassionate man that Kran was.

Mr Riddle was a great man and took time on his weekends back in 2007/2008 to help with my Eagle Scout Project. He was a great part of Troop 1 and his impact was felt by many.
