Randall Hauser Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 28, 2024.
Randall Charles Hauser, 75, died in his Woodinville home following a valiant battle with cancer. He was well known locally as a popular hair stylist and perhaps best known for his contributions to the early grunge music scene promoting and producing several local bands, including the band Alice in Chains.

Randy was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan, where his family moved when his father, Cliff Hauser, returned from Japan, after World War II. The family returned to the Seattle area and Randy grew up in the Eastgate neighborhood of Bellevue, where he was a Cub Scout with his mother, Alvida, his troop leader. He graduated from Newport High School (1966) where he was a varsity wrestler, and went to Central Washington State University earning degrees in Psychology (72) Sociology (72), Education (72) along with a teaching certificate (72) and a Masters in Sociology (2002).

In addition to teaching, Randy began as an iron-worker in Seattle, working with his dad, and shortly after added developing commercial and residential real estate with his brothers, Kip, Steve, and Joe on the east side.

He also was instrumental in the music business in the 1970s and 1980s. With his many contacts in the industry he became a starting force behind the Grunge Music scene in Seattle and founded the band Alice In Chains. His influence helped new bands, acting as both producer and promoter under the business name of Standing Room Only. Randy would say he coined the phrase "They have a grungy sound."

Randy settled in Woodinville and pursued a career as a hair stylist at Gene Juarez in Bellevue and then Hairmasters in Woodinville with a loyal following.

He was proud of his home and Dahlia garden, loved his dogs (Autumn, Jaxon, Max), thoroughbred race winners at Longacres and Yakima Meadows (Sum Buddy, Blue Boom), parakeet (Jasmine). He loved spending time with his family, ranging from Tygh Valley, Oregon, to Hawaii and Mexico.

Randy had many interests: he supported the Mariners and Sonics but was a fierce follower of the Seahawks, Kraken, and Huskies. Randy was avid at sailing-owning his own boat- and riding his motorcycle. He loved playing all board games, cards, softball (Jones Boys), and a quick powerful menace on the racquetball court. Also loved to fish and golf. A lifelong voracious reader and history buff-he made solo trips to Greece and Egypt.

Randy was predeceased by his parents, Cliff and Alvida, and survived by his three brothers, Kip Hauser (Debra), Joe Hauser (Christine), and Steven Hauser as well as nieces and nephews Cheryl Hauser, Carlyn Agustin, Joe Hauser (Annette), Cathy Huber (George), Kip (Kevin David) Hauser (Danica), Kimberly Smith (Carl), Emily Perry, Steven Hauser (Monica), Rebecca Weichers, and predeceased by his nephew Kip Hauser.

No writeup can capture his spirit or the love he had for his family and friends. He will be missed by all.

A celebration of life will be held at the American Legion Hall # 127 in Woodinville, WA on Saturday, June 8th, 1:00 - 4:00pm.

Randy was a true friend who's memory will remain with me for all my remaining days. The challenging times that we made it through together made the sunny days we spent on the golf course with my friend that much sweeter.

I hired Randall at HairMasters. We worked closely for many years, and were friends after he left the salon. I miss knowing that he is out there somewhere, ready for me to stop by, or text him updates on my life.

I met Randy in 1989 when we shared a rehearsal space with Allison chains and from the minute, he walked in the room I was like wow who is this guy? He demanded attention and demanded respect and he would give as well as receive and once you became a friend of Randy´s, you were golden, and that guy would do anything for you to help you succeed in the industry and after his stent with Alice signed on as a manager of my band and he manages for about a year and a half two years until there was a incident, but he had to go away for a while, but we had never played better shows made more money and gone farther in the scene than with Randall Hauser managed us I have just recently had done a bunch of work on his house and was his guy that did all the kitchen and bath remodels and totally gutted and re-painted and repaired all the walls and cowlings in his rental and got it ready for the new tenants...... it pains me to think that Randy was stage 4 for over the last year and he never once complained to me or told me anything so I was just his friend Joe for over 35 years and yet I had no idea he was hurting as bad as he was but knowing the man he would not want people treating him any differently or thinking poor me !
I´m going to miss him dearly he was a positive force in my life and he and o watched all the Husky football games together and that´s what I am going to miss the most going forward!
I just hope he knew how much I loved home and looked up to him !
Love you Randy

Nothing I can say here will truly capture how cool Randall was. He cut my hair as a goofy teenager through college and all the way until I got a square job in an office. In that time period I got to know him as a really fun, jovial, intelligent, and kind.

The stories about his time and in Hawaii, and his experience with the music industry will stay with me for the rest of my life.

I use to have a sort of long rebellious haircut and I remember one day as I was going into get a cut Randall told me "there´s a time in your life to stand out and there´s a time in your life to fit in.. I think you might be entering a different phase in life... let´s get you a cut to match it. We go through different phases in our life, different eras.. that´s why life is so long. You´ll get to a time when you can stand out again just ride life´s wave."

I´ll miss knowing you´re out there Randall. You were awesome.
