RAY LAPE Obituary
RAY F.
Sgt. Major USMC, retired. Age 86, peacefully on January 16, 2016. Born in Olean, NY raised in Charleroi, formerly of Crafton. Husband of 59 years to the late Audrey (Kissinger) Lape; he leaves behind his devoted extended family of James V. Pella, Joseph and Mary Theresa Capone, Michele Hansen and the Robert and Kimberly Heller family. Ray enlisted in the Marines in 1946 serving over ten years of active duty before re-enlisting in the Marine Reserve serving over 30 years of regular and reserve duty. Retiring with the rank of Sergeant Major, after the service, Ray was formerly employed by Ryerson Steel in Carnegie for over 30 years holding various positions. Ray was a Fourth Degree member and Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council #875 and American Legion Frank R. Kirk Post 145. He was a longtime St. Philip Church active member. As per Ray's directions, there was no viewing and a private Blessing Service. Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery with full military honors. Ray was a Marine colleague of mine from early on through his retirement. On occasion we would ride together to/from drills. He
was able to get me a summer job at Ryerson in the mid-1990's
when they had a government contract to supply rebars for the atomic power plant in Beaver county.
Ray was an outstanding Marine and a great role model.

I am a 1976 graduate of Canevin High School. Ray was our rifle team instructor. He taught us how to respect our rifle and hit our target with the skills he acquired from the Marine Corps. I still use the skills he taught me to this day. My deepest sympathies to his family. He was a wonderful role model. He will be remembered forever. Thanks Ray
