Raymond Barberesi Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 25, 2025.
Raymond Barberesi, 73, of West Palm Beach, FL, formerly of New York and Maryland, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025.

Before beginning his professional career, Raymond was the lead singer and guitarist in local bands in New York, where his charisma, talent, and love of music shone brightly. Even after retirement, he kept his love of music alive by playing guitar and singing with his family on his visits back to Maryland, creating special moments of laughter and song.

Before moving to Florida, he treasured summer trips with his children to Ocean City, Maryland, as well as visiting relatives in New York. Together they also enjoyed adventures in Canada, Cancun, Mexico, and Paris, France - experiences that reflected his love of exploration, family connection, and joy in life's adventures. He had a deep appreciation for art and history, which he shared passionately on these trips.

Raymond enjoyed a distinguished career with the U.S. Department of Transportation's Maritime Administration, where he dedicated decades of service to advancing America's maritime interests before retiring in 2004. After retiring, he continued to stay active through consulting and other professional endeavors, bringing his expertise and strong work ethic to a variety of projects. Highly intelligent, deeply knowledgeable in his field, and known for his sharp wit, he was respected and valued by colleagues throughout his career.

Beyond his professional achievements, Raymond will be remembered for his quick humor, charismatic presence, and the way he could captivate a room with a story. His love of conversation, his knack for making people laugh, and his dedication to his work left an enduring impression on those who knew him.

Raymond was also admired for his strength and determination, facing stage 4 melanoma with courage for years - and ultimately overcoming it. He carried unwavering faith and a focused mindset, which led to a miraculous and unexpected recovery. He lived cancer free for over a decade, leaving a legacy of resilience.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carmine and Doris Barberesi.

He is survived by his children, Michael (Erin) Barberesi and Christy (Michael) Mirabello; his three grandchildren; his brother Robert (Nina); his four nephews and their families; his wife; and dear friends and extended family - all of whom will carry his memory in their hearts.

He once told his daughter that his motto was "Carpe Diem - Live for today," and that he did.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Melanoma Research Foundation at curemelanoma.org.
