Raymond FREIDAY Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 5, 2003.
FREIDAY _ Raymond Allan "Master of Rhyme and Pun-ishment" 1942 - 2003 It is with a profound sense of sadness that we must announce the passing of our dear friend Ray. While Ray was born in Calgary, he grew up in Ottawa. He returned to Calgary to graduate from William Aberhart High School and completed his post-secondary education at the University of Calgary. He spent his entire career enriching the lives of students within the Calgary Board of Education. Ray taught from the heart and demonstrated a passion for learning which earned him the respect of colleagues and students alike. He was known by all as an intellectual and an accomplished humorist - but most of all - a genuine friend with a sensitivity to others. Ray's love of language earned him an affectionate reputation as a master of words and a magician of puns. With his quiet but powerful sense of humour he loved to engage in a duel of puns with whomever he was with. For Ray, living was learning. Ray remained in his home surrounded by his books, his videos, and his many friends. He left us on Thursday, May 29 at 5:15 p.m., to join his parents, Allan and Alice. He will be dearly missed by countless friends (both in Canada and Australia), and particularly his significant other Gayle Fields. Ray is also survived by his aunts, Betty, Edna and Margaret of Ottawa and cousin Barbara of Sydney, Australia. We would like to thank those special people who took such wonderful care of Ray in his most difficult time: Dr. Stephen Watson, and nurses, Sue Pearce, Sandra, Marg, Elaine, Olive and Carol. A celebration of Ray's life will be held at Rutland Park Community Association (3130 - 40 Avenue S.W.), Calgary, AB on Saturday, June 7, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. Friends so desiring may make donations in Ray's memory to the Alberta Program, Mennonite Central Committee, 76 Skyline Crescent N.E., Calgary, AB T2K 5X7, or a charity of choice.
