Richard John Bauer

Eugene - Richard J. Bauer, 86, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025. Born in Eugene, Oregon on January 6, 1939 to Richard and Anastasia Bauer, he graduated from St. Francis High School, studied diesel mechanics at Eugene Vocational School, and served two years in the Army. He worked for Lane County Public Works for over 30 years, where he met Carolee, who he was married to for 58 years. After retiring from Lane County, he continued working, driving dealer trades for Kendall Ford. He was an avid fly fisherman and advocated for conservation, serving as president of both the Steamboaters and the North Umpqua Foundation. He regularly fished the Metolius and North Umpqua Rivers, traveled annually to West Yellowstone, and enjoyed photography and gardening. Richard was preceded in death by his brother Bill Bauer and is survived by his siblings, Margaret Blaine and Louis Bauer; children Richard Bauer and Laura Delp; and his five grandchildren: Marissa, Connor, Kara, Sam, and Koen. He will be remembered always for his love of family, joy as a grandpa, and commitment to conservation. The funeral will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church on Thursday, August 28 at 12:15 p.m.
