Richard Calhoun Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 26, 2024.
Richard Harris Calhoun, better known to friends and family as Dick, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2019, in Virginia Beach, VA, at the age of 88. Born on March 14, 1931, in Los Angeles, CA, Richard was a man whose presence was as commanding as his laughter, and whose influence was as wide as his smile.

Richard's early education took place at John Burrough's Junior High School followed by Los Angeles High. He furthered his studies at the University of Southern California, laying a foundation for a life rich in knowledge and wit. He carried the spirit of his youth throughout his life, always ready with a banjo tune and a compliment for those he cherished.

As a beacon of love and humor, Richard's life was a testament to the joy of giving. His eyes twinkled with humor and his words often carried the weight of wisdom, presented with a quick wit that endeared him to many. A dedicated family man, he expressed his love through music, laughter, and the simple act of acknowledging the beauty in everyone he met.

Richard leaves behind his beloved wife, Joyce Calhoun, and a legacy through his children, Michael Crago (Karen), Kathleen Seymour, Nancy Pouliquen (Eric), and Peggy Alexandros (Brandon). His warmth and guidance will also be missed by his nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who continue to walk in the light of his teachings.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Marcella Harris Calhoun and William Claxton Calhoun; his brother, William Paul Calhoun; his sister, Nancy Marcella Tracy; and his niece, Anja Marcella Calhoun.

A celebration of Richard's life will be held at Bayside Presbyterian Church in Virginia Beach on August 17th, 2019 at 11 am. All who knew him are welcome to attend and pay their respects, sharing in the melodies of his memory.

As his family and friends raise a Rob Roy in his honor, Richard's legacy will continue to play on through the memories and the music that filled his 88 years of a well-lived life. Rest in peace, Richard Calhoun. Your laughter and love remain immortal.
