Richard Gremillion Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 27, 2024.
On Nov. 11th, 2024 the world lost a brilliant and great man, Richard M. Gremillion, Sr. He was our rock. Born on Sept. 17th, 1941 in Alexandria to the late Stanley and Nellois Gremillion, he grew up in Baton Rouge where he and his buddies raced cars at the drag-strip, getting disqualified on one occasion for doing a 'wheelie' which was deemed unsafe in that era of the '50's. He graduated from Baton Rouge HS in 1959. While rearing his young family and working full-time, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from LSU in 1970. In the late seventies he received his Professional Engineering degree certificate. Heavily involved in the emerging digital field of transistors, electronics, computers and micro-controllers, he had a Tandy TRS-80 computer in the mid-70's. His early jobs included engineering work at WBRZ Channel 2; WJBO AM & FM radio stations; Scientific Systems, Inc and Forte and Tablada, Inc. He opened and operated his own successful engineering firm, C-Tek Engineering, Inc. He was very proud of his single and multi-engine, IFR pilot license of which he flew company planes all over the southern and eastern U.S.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Gremillion; children, Richard "Rick", Jr., Brent T. and Kipp T. (Natasha) Gremillion; extended family, Ben (Molly) and Dan (Audra) Phillips. Grandchildren, Blake, Grant and Emma Gremillion, Skylar, Gabe, Daniel and Mary Ann Phillips, and six great-grandchildren, Sara (15), Camryn (15), Grace (8), Reid (6), Hayden (3) and Payton (2); and brother, Stanley (Janene) Gremillion. He is also survived by many relatives and countless friends. He was inspirational and impacted many of their lives with his knowledge, wisdom and compassion. The answer to most any question usually required a simple phone call to him as the answer he would immediately know.

Ann and "Richie" enjoyed 37 years of marriage in Mandeville. They enjoyed many great times at the Pontchartrain Yacht Club where they were members for many years. They also enjoyed traveling and celebrating Mardi Gras.

Richard, after 23 years of battling, succumbed to prostate cancer. In lieu of flowers, he asked that donations be made to The American Cancer Society.

Visitation will be Sat, Nov 30, 2024 at St. Timothy's on the North Shore; 335 Asbury Dr; Mandeville, LA 70448 at 10:00AM, service at 11:00AM and reception at 12:00PM.

I will always remember Richard as a complete gentleman. We spend countless hours racing sailboats in Lake Pontchartrain and in the Gulf, as far east as Pensacola and across to Key West. There are many memories of serene and dangerous races, but the one that stands out (I wasn´t on it) was during an unpredicted storm off the coast of Gulfport when all the ports were blown out and the electronic equipment was soaked in salt water. They made it to shore somehow and Richard just rinsed all the equipment out with a hose and set it in a low oven to dry out. He had everything working again! My condolences to all his family and friends.

We are so grateful for Richard's wisdom and unparallel kindness shown to our son when he became his next-door neighbor. Richard quickly became a very dear friend to the entire family. He will never be forgotten. Love and prayers.
