ALLEN, Robert F. Of Virginia Beach, VA, died April 7, 2022. The beloved husband of 54 years to Nancy J. (Hughes) Allen. Loving father of Melissa "Missy" Ryan of Valencia, CA and Rebecca "Becky" Allen of Quincy, MA, both formerly of Whitman, MA. Doting Papa to Alexandra Ryan and Emma Ryan of Valencia, CA. Proud father-in-law of LAPD Sgt. II George W. Ryan, III (formerly of Weymouth, MA) of Valencia, CA. Originally from South Boston, Dorchester and Whitman, MA, he was the son of the late Thomas J. Allen, Sr. and the late Angela (DiMaggio) Allen. Brother to the late Thomas J. Allen, Jr. of Plymouth, MA. Bob is survived by his sister-in-law Judi Allen of Plymouth, MA; and his in-laws Daniel (Howie) and Barbara Hughes of Virginia Beach, VA. He enjoyed being uncle Bob to his nephews and nieces and their families. Being a part of the DiMaggio Family was a source of pride for Bobby all of his life. He loved his cousins and always stayed up-to-date on the family news. He was a proud U.S. Marine Veteran who served in the Vietnam Conflict. He lived by the motto "Once a Marine Always a Marine." Bob had a decorated career as a Boston Police Patrolman for 32 years. He was appointed February 5, 1970 and retired on August 22, 2002. During his exemplary career, Bob delivered babies, comforted countless victims, arrested suspects for a myriad of crimes, protected the innocent and even rescued people from burning buildings. On-duty, even off-duty on multiple occasions, Bob embodied a life of Protecting and Serving. The day of his retirement, Bob and Nancy moved to Virginia Beach, VA to start the new phase of their lives. Bob worked as a currier on Naval Station Norfolk where he enjoyed talking to everyone from admirals to a sailor just out of boot camp. After leaving MWR, Bob worked for his local WAWA on Shore Drive where his tales of a life-well-lived were shared with all. Bob will be missed by all who knew him. His family extends their gratitude to the CCU and ICU teams of Sentra Virginia Beach General Hospital. Their caring, empathy, and compassion helped Bob and his family through this most difficult time. Services will be private but a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local animal shelter or rescue in honor of Bob and his love of Rocco the dog, his cats, his grandpuppies and his grandrabbit.
